Conrad Brown passed away Monday evening, December 16th at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.
Connie as he was known to friends and family was diagnosed with cardiac heart failure in 1978. He worked with doctors, nurses and nutritionists at Advent for the past 50 years to remain healthy to spend time with his wife, beloved kids and grandkids to whom he was simply known as “Papa”.
He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois attending St. Gregory’s High School and graduated with a degree in business from DePaul University. After DePaul he graduated from the United States Navy’s Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island.
He spent his Naval years on bases in Japan and aboard the USS Bennington toward the conclusion of the Korean War and the work up to Vietnam.
Conrad married Margaret (Pat) Brown on July 16th, 1966 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Chicago. They settled in Evanston, Illinois and gave birth to their first child, Stacie Brown Withers. Conrad began his career at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois before joining Recognition Equipment Incorporated a career choice that moved the family to Kansas City.
Connie and Pat bought a home in Overland Park and gave birth to their second of two, James Patrick Brown.
Connie was an active member of several Catholic parishes in Johnson County serving as President at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
In his spare time, he loved to coach and play sports with his children and grandchildren. He was a gardener, loved to cook and enjoyed playing board games.
He is survived by his wife Pat, his two children, Stacie and Jim, son in law Jim Withers, daughter in law Christian Weld Brown and five adoring grandchildren Marin McLeese, wife of Andrew McLeese, Sophia Brown, Spencer Brown, Kathryn Withers and James (Michael) Withers.
Services will be Friday, December 20, 2024 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W. 103rd Street, Overland Park, KS. 66214. The visitation will begin at 2:00pm, mass at 3:00pm with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
