Jan 09, 1955---Jan 04, 2026

Collen Sue “Nene” Huls, 70, of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully on January 4th at her home. She was born in Portland, OR on January 9, 1955, to Henry Green and Esther Heimbuck. She was a graduate of Bayard Nebraska High School.

She married Douglas Huls on December 1, 1973 in Bayard, NE.  She worked in specialized dental practices for 27 years and retired in 2021.

Colleen and Doug moved from Beatrice, NE to Murray, NE after having their two daughters, Stephanie and Stacy, where they remained until 1994.  In 1994, she moved with her family to Overland Park, KS.  Some of her greatest joys came from her four grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She (“Nene” as she was known by her grandkids) took an active role in the lives of her grandchildren and was a constant presence at all of their sporting activities and events…she never missed anything.  Regardless of the distance of the event, she was there.  Her love and commitment to her family will be dearly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Huls; two daughters, Stephanie Noblit and Stacy Conwill; her four grandchildren, Jacob Huxhold, Emerson Noblit, Carter and Cooper Jegen; one great-granddaughter, Aspen Dawkins; three brothers, Henry Green, Jerry Green (Linda) and Harlan Schmick. She is also survived by two stepbrothers. She leaves numerous family members and friends to mourn her loss.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 9, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7851 W. 119th Street, Overland Park, KS, with graveside service to follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, in Overland Park, KS.

My deepest sympathy for such a great loss. I am lucky to have met and worked with Colleen even if it was for a short time. She always talked so much about her family and you can tell how much love she had for them. May you rest in peace Colleen.

Doug and girls, you were terrific neighbors to us and our family and had specials ties to you. Your pup, that made us get one for our kids, your relationship with Greg Hill and then ours with him, the Chiefs, golf, and just being across the street. So friendly and warm with us and others. Our thoughts and prayers are with you! Tom, Dotty and our children!!!

Dear friend ,Lenexa ,Kansas

Shortly after finishing residency, I hired Colleen to manage my first practice. Her kindness and patience with me were instrumental in my development. We continue to grow because of the foundation she helped lay. In 2025 she conspired with close friend Jeanie Windes to set me up on a blind date with my now wife. It’s no stretch to say that I owe everything to Colleen and I don’t know what my life would look like without her. I will miss her terribly and I’m so glad we got some precious time together before she passed. Sending prayers and support to the family. Please call on me any time!
