Claudina M. Castanieto, 96, of Shawnee, KS, formerly of Niland, CA, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Top Care Home Plus Assisted Living.
A Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m. and Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. for Claudina at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, Calipatria, CA, on February 14, 2025, with the burial at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley, CA. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow in Calipatria, CA.
Claudina was born on May 10,1928, in Albuquerque, NM, the daughter of Enrique and Petrolina Gurule Martinez. She moved to Imperial Valley, CA in 1943, married Tony (Antonio) Castanieto on March 23, 1944, and they settled in Niland, CA, where she lived in her home for 75 years before moving to Shawnee, KS to live with her daughter three years ago. A devout catholic, she was a dedicated parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Niland, CA.
Claudina worked diligently in the farming industry alongside her husband for many years. Her selflessness and industriousness shone in her other roles as caregiver for elderly family members and the lunch lady at the elementary school, and in her own venture of starting a cleaning business in her 60s for the California Prison System, being in charge of new construction clean up at two prisons.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tony and her son Anthony, her parents, her sisters Mary Rodriquez and Evangelina Ganir, and her brothers Fred and Frank Martinez. Claudina is survived by her brothers Pete and Eloyd Martinez, her children and their spouses Joyce and Robert (Bob) Terry, and Henry and Novie Castanieto. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren and their spouses and partners Michelle and Scott Hardy, Annette and Anthony Ruiz, Joey and Heather, Angela and Jeff Sheldon, Michael and Nelly, Anthony, David and Jamie, and Claudina Castanieto, as well as two great grandchildren Travis and Natalie Hardy, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
