Charles L. Simpson, 92, of Olathe, KS, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026 after a short illness with influenza. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 14, at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia St, Lenexa, KS with a rosary prayer at 5:45 pm. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, January 15, at 10:30 am at Divine Mercy Parish, 555 West Main Street, Gardner, KS 66030. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 12600 Parallel Pkwy, Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Legion Post 153, 410 E. Dennis, Olathe, KS 66061.
Charles was born August 1, 1933, in Purcell, KS to Russell and Gladys (Lapaille) Simpson. He graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1952. Charles was a veteran who served in the United States Army. Charles started working at Owens Corning for 18 years before becoming an Insurance Agent for 46 years. He loved coaching sports including football, basketball and baseball. He was a referee for baseball, basketball, football and wrestling for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, UFAA and 3&2.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Shirley June (Denton) Simpson, son Kevin Mark Simpson, his siblings; Gertrude, Russell, Marjorie, Robert, Ralph, Brenda and Paul.
Charles is survived by his wife of 16 years, Bea (Rinke) Simpson, nine children; Charles (Nancy) Simpson, Jr., Janis (Scott) Castle, Patty Ann (Tim) Farr, Debbie (John) Mott, Diana Brockman, Karen (Jim) Bedell, Jerry (Martha) Simpson, Richard (Pam) Simpson, Carol Simpson-Lundy, three step children; Brad (Tami) Mueller, Bianca (Dana) Reed, Michael Brien, many grandchildren, many more great and great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and his beloved pets, Cooper and Casey.
