Mar 21, 1964---Dec 01, 2024

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Allen Bartlett, beloved husband, father, and friend, who passed away unexpectedly on December 1, 2024, at the age of 60.

Chuck was born on March 21, 1964, in St Louis, Missouri, to Jim and Ladonna (Tharp) Bartlett. From a young age, Chuck displayed an unwavering commitment to family, his faith, the community, and the things that mattered most to him. After graduating with a bachelors and Master’s degree from Kansas State University, he began a successful career in Civil Engineering, but it was his role as a devoted husband and father that brought him the greatest joy.

Chuck leaves behind his loving wife of 38 years, Kathie, and their four cherished children: Nathan (34), Max (33) and his wife, Serena; Ben (30) and his wife, Mary and the future grandchild; and Emma (29) and her husband, Dustin and their daughter, Kennedy. Chuck is also survived by his brother, Richard Bartlett and his wife, Michelle; and nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly. His family was the light of his life. He left eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first grandchild and the growth of his family. He was their constant source of support, wisdom, and love. He made it his mission to be present in his family’s lives with an emphasis on outdoorsmanship such as hunting, fishing, playing sports, and having fun. Chuck was the one to make us laugh with a dad joke or silly pun, and the one who showed up when it mattered, without hesitation.

Professionally, he was known for his work ethic and loyalty. He was committed, brilliant, and intentional in all his pursuits. He set the standard for most things. He was a licensed engineer in seven states, a member of six engineering organizations including SAVE International (Society of American Value Engineers), SAME (Society of American Military Engineers), AACE International (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering), Kansas Rural Water Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, and American Public Works Association.

Outside of his professional career, he was an avid conservationist, a board member of BHA (Backcountry Hunters and Anglers), and a Master Naturalist for Johnson County where he worked on the Stream Team. As a young man he became an Eagle Scout and throughout his entire adult life he was a passionate follower of all Kansas State sports.

Chuck’s values, activities, and passions stemmed from his love and deeply rooted faith in Jesus. Throughout his life he served the Church in many ways by leading, teaching, and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. A memorial service will be held on December 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Lenexa Baptist Church in Lenexa KS and followed by a burial at Desoto Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of the following, Kids Hunt Free, Manhattan Christian College or Kansas State College of Engineering, organizations that were close to Chuck’s heart.

Chuck’s legacy will live on through his family, friends, and all those who were fortunate to know him. He was taken too soon, but we are grateful to have experienced what unconditional love feels like. He will be so deeply missed

I am so very sorry, dear family. Chuck was always so kind to me and he loved Kathie dearly. It was my great pleasure to sing at Chuck and Kathie’s wedding. My family and I will be praying for yours in the months to come.

I only knew Chuck for a short time. We attended worship and Sunday school together. Chuck was warm spirited and easy to talk to. He was secure in his faith and loved Jesus. I will regret not getting to know him on a deeper level. Chuck has received the greatest reward of life but he will be missed here on earth.

We are shocked and sadden at this news. Chuck was very active in many projects for the Extension Master Naturalists and a delight to work with. He willingly shared his time and talents with the greater KC community. His passion and love of nature will truly be missed and a loss for us all.

So sad for Kathie and his children. I was fortunate to have been Chuck's co-worker at Larkin Group in 1990s and became a hunting buddy. I would never start a description of Chuck as just an accomplished civil engineer but would lead with him being a devoted family man and Christian. He will be missed by many, many people. Taken into God's kingdom of heaven far too soon for those that remain behind.

Chuck and Kathie were our neighbors when i was just a kid. They where always so kind and welcomed me into their home more times than I count. It was the invitation to come try our their church In Great Bend that gave me and my family such a strong faith in God and his church. That foundation we saw Chuck set for his family forever changed us. Prayers for all of the family, sending all my thoughts to you in this time of grief.

We are so sorry to hear about your terrible loss. Chuck was a good man and will be missed. There are never clear reasons why God chose to take Chuck home at this time. Psalm 116:15 says “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints” May knowing that your husband and father is in his forever home with his risen Savior bring you comfort during these difficult times.

My condolences to Kathie and the entire Bartlett family. My heart hurts with yours. Chuck was an admired leader, a top-notch engineer, and an inspirational teacher and mentor. His contributions to Benesch’s Value Management Program are immeasurable. But most importantly, Chuck was simply a “good guy” that lived his life showing others how to be a loving husband and father. Rest in peace, Chuck. Until we meet again…

Heartfelt condolences to Kathy and the entire Bartlett family. I’ve had the fortune of working with Chuck on various projects over the past many years. He had that great and uncommon blend of technical excellence with an unassuming, down-to-earth approach. A team was instantly better with Chuck in the room. I consider myself very blessed to have known him. Thank you Chuck. Rest in peace.

So sorry to hear this news. I have such fond memories of Chuck. He was older than me, but he was always very kind and friendly to me when I was a kid (unlike some of the other guys his age!). When I think of him, I think of his positivity, his smile and laugh, and his high character and integrity. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Such a wonderful person.

I have known Chuck only since we began the training for the Master Naturalist program, however we have worked closely since then on the stream team. I'll relate one interaction. I mentioned to Chuck that I had an idea for a new project while we were monitoring a stream. At the end of the effort, Chuck suggested we talk some more about the idea over coffee. By the time we finished the coffee, we had a basic plan in place. Not only was we supportive but he jumped in to make the project happen. His unique talents and background were complimentary and we made an excellent team. The project is ongoing and successful. It would not have happened without Chuck's help. On another level, I always found Chuck to be kind and he was one of most considerate people I have worked with. He combined passion for the environment with an engineer’s practical approach. He will be missed.

I was so sad to hear of Chuck's passing. I met Chuck my first year of volunteering with the Extension Master Naturalist. We both served on the Stream Team testing Johnson County water locations. He was so kind and welcoming to me as a young volunteer learning the ropes. He taught me how to do some of the key water samples and measurements. He was a valued part of our small team and it won't be the same without him. It was so neat to see his care for the natural world and his spending his free time caring for God's creation. (I have included a couple photos of him teaching the new volunteers and out in the Stream.)
