Aug 03, 1935---Jan 30, 2023

Charles “Chuck” Eugene Warren passed away peacefully on January 30, 2023 after a five-year battle with dementia.  Born in Peoria, Illinois on August 3, 1935, he grew up in Iowa City and graduated from the University of Iowa with a BS and Masters in Electrical Engineering.  He was a lifelong, diehard Hawkeye fan.  He worked for 35 years at Proctor & Gamble, a job that took him from Iowa, to Cincinnati, Ohio and ultimately to Overland Park, where he lived for the last 54 years of his life.

In 1957, he met the love of his life, Carolyn “Butch” Wagner.  They were happily married for 52 years.  Together they had 6 children – 3 boys and 3 girls.  At the time of his death, he had 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a 21st on the way.  Family was always his priority. Chuck was also a lifelong Catholic and a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church at the time of his death.

Chuck was a great athlete, playing three sports in high school – basketball, football and baseball.  He was a runner and later in life took up biking.  He could often be seen riding the trails around Indian Creek into his 80’s.   He loved his hometown Royals, Chiefs and the Jayhawk basketball team.  Chuck also loved fishing and boating.  For many years, he had a house at the Lake of the Ozarks where he taught his kids, grandkids and even his great grandkids how to fish.

Chuck was very smart, funny and a constant learner.  He was an excellent photographer, woodworker and a voracious reader.  Chuck embodied the concept of FOMA.  He had tons of energy and he never wanted to be left out of anything.  He was strong, tough, and stubborn but inside he was a gentle teddy bear.

Chuck enjoyed traveling and he and Butch visited Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and most of the fifty states.  They made lifelong friends wherever they went.  Sadly, shortly after he retired, Butch was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s.  He lovingly cared for her for many years in the home and when that became too difficult, he visited her every day until her death in 2010.  Dad also found love and companionship later in life, marrying Sarah Kastner when he was 77.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Dot Warren, both of his wives, his son, Andy, and his granddaughter, Alexis.  He is survived by his children, Christy Peterson (Randal), Marty Warren, Susan Pena (Ralph), Patrick Warren (Kellie) and Mike Warren as well as his many grandchildren and their spouses, and his great-grandchildren.

The Rosary will be prayed at 2 p.m. with the visitation from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 5 at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 6 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W. 103rd St., Overland Park, KS. A lunch will follow at the church. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. at St. John Cemetery in Lenexa, KS. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Tom and want to let you know how very sorry we are to learn of your dad’s passing. He was truly a great friend. He worked at keeping in touch with his friends and would make the effort to see them if he was traveling anywhere near to them. We had some wonderful travel times with both your mom and dad. Our love to all of you. We’ll keep you and your dad in our prayers. Tom and June

Your Dad and I met 50 plus years ago as young managers at P&G. We became close friends, worked together, played together and watched our families grow up. He was a special person, cared deeply for all of you and enriched my life. I'm thankful for knowing him. You are in my prayers, Chuck

I have so many fond memories of the adventures our families had together. With 9 kids and 4 adults there was never a dull moment. I have many vivid memories of the great fun we had on our annual trips; exploring the golf course behind the house, watching what, was to me as a child, the most incredible thunderstorm ever in the Ozarks, and visiting weird tourist spots like a restaurant that looked like Noah's Ark. I was fascinated by "Uncle" Chuck's many creative projects and the often spirited exchange of opinions, between him and his kids. The Warren's wonderful family Christmas cards inspired me to do the same as an adult. 29 years of our own photo cards hang framed in our bedroom and inspire me almost everyday. Through it all, he always had that great smile. Thanks "Uncle" Chuck for for being a role model to me and for all the great times.

Joanne and I relocated to P&G KC from P&G California in the early 1970s. We immediately met up with a family that is world class—the Chuck and Butch Warren family. Chuck always set the standard for human behavior, leadership and professionalism. And he had a great sense of humor to keep things together. Like the time he hooked his fishing guide behind the ear while casting his lure at the lake. Oh well! Always on our mind and in our prayers.

Dear Warren family, our since condolences to you on Chuck's passing. He recruited both Jenny and me at Iowa State and hired us even though we were Cyclones! His ability to make others feel valued and important made him a great recruiter and successful manager. HIs devotion to his family was a wonderful example, especially to younger managers at the plant. Please know that our prayers are with you now and in the days to come. May he rest in peace.

Bobbie and I are saddened by the news of Chuck's passing. We met Chuck and Carolyn in the mid 80's. We would visit weekly at Hy-Vee on Sunday mornings after 7:30 Mass. We always joked that breakfast at Hy-Vee was the best meal our little boys would get all week. Over the years, Chuck watched all of our kids grow up. He always had kind words and showed genuine interest in how our family was doing. He was a special person. I know he will be missed.

I've known Chuck since my family moved to Iowa City in 1944. We grew up in the same neighborhood, went thru City High and Iowa's Engineering school together, and I was proud to be one of his groomsmen when he and Butch were married. We stayed in touch all of our lives, with family visits in Cincinnati, Wilton, Ct, Overland Park, Lake of the Ozarks, and Naples. To me, Chuck was a life long friend, mentor, consular, but most of all, he was an inspiration. He set an example for everybody, his family, friends, work associates, etc. He was a no-nonsense, straight from the shoulder kind of guy who, in his own way, always showed that he really cared about you and wanted nothing but the best for you. Well done, my friend, well done indeed! Gerry Myers Naples, FL
