Sep 08, 1925---May 05, 2025

Betty Lou (Zinser) Hinderks, 99, passed away May 5, 2025 at the Santa Marta retirement community in Olathe, Kansas.

She was born on September 8, 1925 in Ware, Texas to George and Viola (Jennings) Zinser.

Betty Lou graduated from Southeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri and then attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa.  During wartime, she met the love of her life, Wardell Hinderks, and they were married on October 22, 1944. Their romance continued through 66 happy years of marriage.

Betty Lou made the world more beautiful with her many talents—gardening, painting, sewing, and cooking—and she perfected them all. She tackled any task with enthusiasm and zeal. Her homemade cinnamon rolls and sweet rolls were legendary. Betty Lou worked alongside her husband and family at Flury-Hinderks Insurance Agency for forty years and was very active in the Community of Christ Church. She and Wardell also loved traveling the world together. Family meant everything to Betty Lou, and she showered them all with her love.

Betty Lou is preceded in death by her husband Wardell, her parents, and her two brothers, Allen Zinser and Raymond Zinser.

She is survived by her three children: Larry (Stacy) Hinderks, Penny (Phil) Bozarth, and Scott (Susan) Hinderks, her four grandchildren: James Hinderks, Holly (Luke) Meek, Jeff Bozarth, and Kim (Bill) Rowlen, and six great-grandchildren: Blake Hinderks, Julia Hinderks, Ethan Meek, Lauren Meek, Owen Meek, and Grace Rowlen.

Betty Lou’s vibrant presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A private family service will be planned at a later date. If you so desire, instead of flowers, the family would suggest a memorial donation to your favorite charity.

Betty Lou was my second Mom. I ll always cherish memories of making chocolate chip cookies and sticky buns with her and Scottie. I can still taste them melting in my mouth. Bless you all.

Betty Lou was such an amazing person! Her gardening was impeccable and beautiful! I had the pleasure of taking care of her and Ward and Santa Marta! Their love was so beautiful! Now they are together! She was so proud of her family and had such a strong faith in God.

Betty Lou was one of the best women I’ve known. Talented, generous and smart. She and Wardell were role models to so many of us. We loved them both dearly. We remember when they used to go on walks in our neighborhood and could hardly make it down the street without someone stopping them to talk. And they graciously chatted with everyone and always made everyone feel special. What a legacy they both left. We will miss them both and rejoice that Wardell is now reunited with “his bride”.

Little did I know when the moving van pulled up next to my house that the family moving in would change my life forever Their youngest son would become my best friend his sister and brother would become like my own family I fondly remember rides in a convertible white Chevy 2 sometimes for work ( Scott’s lawn service )sometimes for school and sometimes just to go somewhere Larry’s rebuilding of his ‘64 Impala may very well be responsible for my fondness of automobiles Penny was very much the interest of the boys on the block Betty Lou was famous for her baking skills. She attempted to teach Scott and I the tricks of the trade, but we were too busy eating what she taught us. Betty Lou you will be missed but not forgotten love son number three

Betty Lou lived a long and wonderful life. Sincere sympathy to the family for their loss of such a special person. I will always remember the phone call she made to me when my husband passed away. We shared our feelings of love and loss. I will treasure that memory.

I have so many fond memories of great aunt Betty Lue, especially from my childhood. I will always cherish the memories of helping coordinate then cerebrating all of the September birthdays together; which included my mother Dana Ketterling (September 7th) my grandmother Bea Mulcahy (September 3rd) and great aunt Betty Lou (September 8th). I was able to upload some photos of my favorites. Most of all I will always remember her hugs, the smell of a fresh baked good of some sort I was never allowed to leave without, her kind heart, and most of all her love for life and everyone blessed to be in it. She has definitely left behind a legacy for us all to live up to.

My heartfelt condolences for your loss. Please find comfort in the knowledge that God promises to eliminate all the things that have plagued mankind for centuries including pain, suffering and death (Revelation 21:3,4). May these promises from God give you comfort now and real hope for the future. My deepest sympathy.
