Alvin O. Cramer (Bud), age 76, of Overland Park passed away January 26th 2024. Bud was born in Emporia Kansas on January 28th 1947, he was the son of Alvin L. and Helen C. Cramer. He was a 1965 graduate of Chanute High School in Chanute Kansas (Go Blue Comets!!). He served in the United States Army Artillery in Vietnam from 1966 through 1969 and received an honorable discharge in 1969.
Al worked for the Santa Fe Railroad (merged later with Burlington Northern to form BNSF) for 42 years and retired in 2007. He married Jeanie F. Casey Goodwin on July 22, 1988. He joined the Catholic Faith under the guidance of Father Leon Kerschen on their first wedding anniversary and was a devout Catholic from thence forward.
Al’s favorite sport was golf and he was what you could consider a scratch golfer for many years. After retiring he worked as a volunteer at Sykes Lady golf course andwas a eucharistic minister and usher at Holy Cross. He and his wife Jeanie loved traveling and they went on several cruises including trips to Europe. His dream was always to visit the Vatican in Rome which he fulfilled with his wife Jeanie in 2008.
Al will always be remembered for his generous nature and he loved helping people with DIY projects, home repair and maintenance and pretty much anything involving his hands and power tools. He also enjoyed playing cards with his wife and friends and parlor games with his grandchildren. He and his wife were honored to be able to take some of their grandchildren on canoe trips. Their great granddaughter, Jersey, was also lucky enough to take a train trip to Albuquerque as well as road trips to both South Padre Island Texas and Panama Beach Florida with Grandpa Bud and Grandma Jeanie. Al loved all of his family deeply with an open heart.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 35 ½ years Jeanie F. Casey; Children - A.J. Cramer and wife Dana, Jeff Cramer and wife Shel-Shel, Tom Goodwin and wife Tammy, Tammy Spiva and husband Kelly; Grandchildren - Andrew, Catherine, Brandi, Austin, Brooke, Ashley, Aaron, Chandler, Emily, and Olivia; Great grandchildren – Jersey, Jackson, Addison, Journey, Hudson, Audrey, Jaqueline, Ripken, Avery, Josie, Griffin, Jayel, Blake, and Jaya; Sisters – Pat Bay and Rae Ann Brown.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Alvin L and Helen Cramer, his son Danny Goodwin, his grandson Bradley Cramer and his sisters Corky Slattery and Bev Elder.
A rosary and visitation will be held at Porter’s Funeral Home in Lenexa from 4-6 on Thursday February 1, 2024. A funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Holy Cross in Overland Park on Friday February 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
A graveside burial and celebration of life will be held later in the spring at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Chanute Kansas (TBA). Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s or Holy Cross School.
