David Lloyd Cooke, 94, of Shawnee KS, left us peacefully on January 30, 2025, surrounded by family and caregivers. A beloved husband, father and grandfather, “Dave” will always be remembered for his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Born on February 13, 1930, in Agency, MO., Dave was the youngest child of Harry and Florence Cooke, younger brother to George and Marian. When he wasn’t helping around the house or putting his expertise into work at the dealership, Dave was an active member of Church of the Resurrection where he thoroughly enjoyed ushering for many years.
Shortly after graduating from Wyandotte High School, Kansas City, KS. in 1948, Dave became a member of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he was employed by Feld Leasing delivering cars to numerous locations in the Midwest. He soon advanced from the leasing division to the dealership, Feld Chevrolet Co., Kansas City, KS. Dave enjoyed the three decades he was employed at Feld, working his way up through various positions to Vice President of Service Operations. After the passing of the dealer principal, the dealership closed and over the following two decades, Dave worked as Service Director for Major Cadillac, Kansas City, MO., and Morse Chevrolet, Overland Park, KS. Dave’s passion was working with the many talented technicians in the automobile service business and together helping clients with their vehicle needs.
On June 27, 1959, Dave married the love of his life, Helen Delores “Dee” Prince. The two have shared a tender earthly romance that has thrived for nearly 66 years. Together they have two children and five grandchildren.
Dave is survived by his wife, Helen Delores (Dee) Cooke, son Gary Cooke and wife Wondra; daughter Sandy Dungan; grandchildren Bryce Cooke, Devon Cooke, Deaton Cooke, Garek Cooke and wife Madalyn, and Collin Dungan U.S.M.C.
Dave is preceded in death by his brother George Cooke and sister Marian (Cooke) Bailey.
