Aug 12, 2004---Jan 21, 2025

Jonathan Phog (JP) Bemberger, 20, of Lenexa, Kansas passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Children's Mercy Hospital after a 5 year battle with Ewing's Sarcoma. The visitation will be 4-6 p.m. with the funeral service starting at 6 p.m. on  Wednesday, January 29th at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS. In honor of JP, the family is asking everyone to wear KU gear/colors to the service.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Children's Mercy Hospital (www.childrensmercy.org) or Team Impact (www.teamimpact.org).

JP was born August 12, 2004 in Fort Myers, FL the day before Hurricane Charlie.  He moved with his family to Lenexa in 2006.  He graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest and had plans to attend Kansas University.  He loved sports in general and especially basketball.  He played in rec leagues for 10 years.  JP was a lifelong Kansas Jayhawk fan and had a special relationship with KU's men's basketball team through Team Impact. He was a loving and giving kid.  He was a leader on the court who helped lift his teammates up.  He enjoyed computers and playing video games, especially with his friends.  He loved watching The Office and had a great sense of humor. Although he was quiet, he had a demeanor that  people were naturally drawn to. He was an amazing young man.

He is survived by his parents Tom and Michelle Bemberger, his sibling Colby, a large, loving extended family including grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, numerous close friends and his KU basketball family.

JP was an awesome dude and I loved playing online with him. Even though I didn’t know him well he’d always let me join him and his friends in whatever video game they were playing. One time he did a small favor for me as part of a passion project I was putting together, it meant a lot as it took some of the stress off my shoulders and the end result was fantastic thanks to him. I send my love and thoughts to all of those who had the pleasure of loving him and being by his side.

Through my grandsons ,Lenexa ,Kansas

To you both. Through my grandsons, Aidan & Brooklyn Ruble, I got to see JP several times and even in those brief encounters, it was obvious he was a sweetheart of a kid. Both of my grandsons really liked JP, and it was obvious why. How can any words ever begin to convey the sorrow we feel for such a young and innocent human being.....it's impossible. My sincerest condolences for this unimaginable loss. Steve Ruble Lenexa

I am so very sorry for the loss of your Son. I wish that I had some magical words of comfort and encouragement to take your pain and hurt away. The truth is that I don’t. I don’t know what JP went through and experienced and I don’t know what you have experienced and the pain you are now feeling. All I can say is that I pray that you will find comfort through the Lord, that you feel the abundance of love that is being given to you. Even though we have never met, your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
