Nov 06, 1933---Jan 21, 2025

John “Jack” Buckley passed away Tuesday, January 21st, 2025 at his home in Olathe surrounded by his family. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 29th at St Ann’s Catholic Church at 12:30-1:30pm immediately followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:30pm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation can be made to St. Ann’s Church Endowment.

Jack was born in Burlington, Vermont to Walter and Dorothy (Cheeseman) Buckley. He attended Richford High and from there went on to earn his bachelors degree at St. Michaels College to which he had many stories and fond memories. He went on to serve his country in the US Army and was stationed at San Antonio Medical Army Base.  During his time in the Army he met his future wife and nurse Barbara Koehler whom he wed back in April,1957. A marriage that stood the test of time and kids and lasted 67 years to the day he passed.

After the Army, Jack and Barbara moved back to Vermont were their family began with the birth of their two daughters Susan and Debra. From Vermont they moved to Michigan where their family continued to grow with the births of their two sons, Daniel and Richard. Again, employment opportunities saw them move to Prairie Village, KS where the family commenced growing with the births of daughter, Sharon and son, Timothy.  Prairie Village became the perfect place to raise their family and Jack ultimately started his family business called Incentive Associates which he thrived at for the next 25 years. Jack was a representative for many products and companies and truly enjoyed traveling his territory and befriending his customers and business partners. Some of his children joined the business and made it possible for him to retire from Incentive Associates.

Jack was a proud member of St Ann’s Church for 60 plus years and ushered masses weekly all while putting his children thru St Ann’s School. He participated in and was a 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed the many volunteer activities they participated in.  Jack enjoyed golf, coaching, dancing, bowling, playing cards, traveling and was a rabid Chiefs fan!

Jack is survived by his wife Barbara; his children, Susan Buckley, Debra (Mark) Hopson, Daniel Buckley, Richard Buckley, Sharon (Tom) Mattern and Timothy (Bonnie) Buckley and his 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother James Buckley and his parents, Walter and Dorothy.

Dear Sue and Buckley Family, Thinking of all of you and your sweet mother during this difficult time. In the times I spent around your father, he was active and fun-loving. Your mother is one of the sweetest people I know. Your family is close. I hope this closeness makes it easier to adjust to the changes brought about by such a tremendous loss. Prayers of peace and comfort to the entire family.

My heart felt sympathy goes out to Aunt Barb and all my much loved cousins. Not under the best of circumstances I got to see uncle Jack when he made his way with Rick to South Carolina last year when his brother my father passed away. Uncle Jack was himself making everyone laugh and enjoying stories. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Friendly, funny and loved to play friendly jokes. I know Barb will be heartbroken but with all the love she has around her with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren she will manage through in this difficult time. Jack you will be greatly missed but I am sure you are with Dad having a drink toasting the after life laughing and telling stories.

I was lucky enough to know Jack from the Paul Henson "Y". I never went back after COVID. But while I was there, we would never discuss anything too personal but he would always be happy to talk Chiefs and golf. I remember him saying how when he went to the Forward tees, golf became fun again. He was a good man and I am sorry for your loss.
