Aug 01, 1937---Jan 01, 2025
Waldemar Harris Boldt, Jr., lovingly known as "Ben," went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 1, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by his family at his home in Lenexa, Kansas.

Born on August 1, 1937, in New York City to Waldemar Harris Boldt, Sr., and Wilhelmine Hellen Boldt, Ben grew up with his sisters, Carol Straut and Marjorie Boldt. He carried his upbringing's values of hard work, faith, and family through every aspect of his life.

A scholar and leader, Ben graduated from Phillips Academy at Andover in 1956, Harvard University in 1960, and Cornell University in 1973. Upon graduating from Harvard, he enlisted and served his country in the United States Army. After obtaining his master's degree, he dedicated his career to healthcare administration from 1973 to 1995. In retirement, his heart for service led him to direct an inner-city free clinic, where he selflessly served from 1997 to 2002.

Ben was a man of deep faith and conviction, serving as a devoted member of Lenexa Baptist Church. His love for the Lord was evident in his daily life, as he inspired others through his compassion, wisdom, and steadfast dedication to Christ's teachings.

A loving husband to Mary Gwendolyn Boldt, affectionately known as "Gwenn," Ben was a devoted father to Jeffrey Boldt, Jonathan Boldt (Julie), and Rebecca Boldt Keller (Jeff). He cherished his role as a grandfather to August Boldt, Katherine Boldt, Harrison Boldt, Harden Boldt, Hudson Boldt, Gavin Boldt, Isaac Smith (Jessica), Benjamin Smith, Jonathan Smith, Austin Angell and Kylee Angell. He also adored his great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Guinevere, and Charlotte Angell.

Ben’s life was filled with service, community, and family. He was a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the American College of Healthcare Executives, Rotary Club, and the Boy Scouts of America. His conservative values and love for America were exemplified through his dedication to distributing a U.S. Pocket Constitution, a personal ministry that reflected his belief in preserving and sharing American ideals.

Known for his quick wit, extensive vocabulary, and practical wisdom, Ben would often remind his family, "Don’t forget your hat and scarf," and encourage them with his favorite triad: "Wisdom, knowledge, and understanding."

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Ben’s life at 11:00 a.m. on January 7, 2025, at Lenexa Baptist Church.  Interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions to the Lenexa Baptist Church Music Ministry in Lenexa, Kansas, Kansas City Hospice, or Cross-Over Healthcare Ministries in Richmond, VA.

Ben’s life was a testimony of faith, love, and service. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to his Savior, his family, and his community, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

It never ceases to amaze me to meet the most beautiful individuals only after a life-limiting illness has been diagnosed and hospice is recommended. Ben was truly the most beautiful man I have ever met. Ben touched my heart from the moment we met in June 2024. I enjoyed visiting with him and his loving wife Gwenn. He always made my day with all of his compliments he readily gave out. I will miss not only Ben but his entire family as well. May all who knew Ben be at peace knowing he is watching over all the ones he loved. I will keep the family in my thoughts and prayers.

I met Ben at Third Presbyterian Church in Richmond, VA. He taught me the meaning of “prolixity.” He came to our group when I faced heartbreak. He was a great friend, often pursuing me when I needed. Reading his obituary, I realized there was more to him than I knew. This could be because of my struggle with James 1:19 (NLT) or his humility. He listened well and spoke truth lovingly. One of my favorite Ben stories is when he told us how he heard God say audibly, “Get out of the car” during a carjacking. I’ll remember you, your sailboat, your heart, your kind ear, and your compassion for your fellow brother in Christ. Enjoy your room in heaven. I look forward to seeing you there.

friend ,Richmond ,Virginia

I met Ben in 1997 when he began as the exec director at CrossOver free clinic. I was a weekly volunteer there as a dentist. Ben and Gwen became my patients and I encouraged them to attend Third Presbyterian Church. We became long-time friends. Ben and I were very much alike, aligned with conservative and deep faith roots. He was a truly great man and mentor in my life. He changed everyone around him who met him. I was really sad when Gwen and he moved to Kansas to be close to family. However, I cannot wait to be with him again and hang out and visit in our future life. My condolences to his family and loved ones.
