Waldemar Harris Boldt, Jr., lovingly known as "Ben," went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 1, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by his family at his home in Lenexa, Kansas.
Born on August 1, 1937, in New York City to Waldemar Harris Boldt, Sr., and Wilhelmine Hellen Boldt, Ben grew up with his sisters, Carol Straut and Marjorie Boldt. He carried his upbringing's values of hard work, faith, and family through every aspect of his life.
A scholar and leader, Ben graduated from Phillips Academy at Andover in 1956, Harvard University in 1960, and Cornell University in 1973. Upon graduating from Harvard, he enlisted and served his country in the United States Army. After obtaining his master's degree, he dedicated his career to healthcare administration from 1973 to 1995. In retirement, his heart for service led him to direct an inner-city free clinic, where he selflessly served from 1997 to 2002.
Ben was a man of deep faith and conviction, serving as a devoted member of Lenexa Baptist Church. His love for the Lord was evident in his daily life, as he inspired others through his compassion, wisdom, and steadfast dedication to Christ's teachings.
A loving husband to Mary Gwendolyn Boldt, affectionately known as "Gwenn," Ben was a devoted father to Jeffrey Boldt, Jonathan Boldt (Julie), and Rebecca Boldt Keller (Jeff). He cherished his role as a grandfather to August Boldt, Katherine Boldt, Harrison Boldt, Harden Boldt, Hudson Boldt, Gavin Boldt, Isaac Smith (Jessica), Benjamin Smith, Jonathan Smith, Austin Angell and Kylee Angell. He also adored his great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Guinevere, and Charlotte Angell.
Ben’s life was filled with service, community, and family. He was a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the American College of Healthcare Executives, Rotary Club, and the Boy Scouts of America. His conservative values and love for America were exemplified through his dedication to distributing a U.S. Pocket Constitution, a personal ministry that reflected his belief in preserving and sharing American ideals.
Known for his quick wit, extensive vocabulary, and practical wisdom, Ben would often remind his family, "Don’t forget your hat and scarf," and encourage them with his favorite triad: "Wisdom, knowledge, and understanding."
Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Ben’s life at 11:00 a.m. on January 7, 2025, at Lenexa Baptist Church. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions to the Lenexa Baptist Church Music Ministry in Lenexa, Kansas, Kansas City Hospice, or Cross-Over Healthcare Ministries in Richmond, VA.
Ben’s life was a testimony of faith, love, and service. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to his Savior, his family, and his community, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
