Michael Thomas Mueller, 97, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023 at the Lakeview Village Care Center. The Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. with the visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 9th at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 13615 W. 92nd St., Lenexa, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Salesian Missions, 2 Le Ferves Lane, New Rochelle, New York, 10801.
Michael was born June 23, 1925, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Michael Matthew and Lillian (Reger) Mueller. He served 27 months of active duty in WWII in the Armed Services Airforce division. After honorable discharge from the service, he obtained his B.S. in Engineering at the University of Iowa. He married his college roommate’s sister, Kathleen, and was employed by Maytag Company in Newton, Iowa for 38 years as a manager of the Civil Engineering Department. Michael was active as a “Road to Recovery” driver, served on various committees for “Habitat for Humanity”, a member of Sacred Heart Church and Knights of Columbus in Newton, IA. Then later was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Lenexa, KS, where he was an usher. After moving to Lakeview Village, he volunteered in the library. He enjoyed reading and was a history buff especially about WWII.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen (Strub) Mueller and one great grandchild. Michael was survived by daughter Ann (Mueller) Hansen and son Michael Joseph Mueller, son-in-law Steve Hansen, daughter-in-law Barb Mueller, 6 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
