Norman Joseph Soder, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the age of 89 surrounded by family.  He was born August 29, 1933, at home to Lillian K. (Seager) and Frank Soder.  He graduated from Hanover High School in 1952.  Norm was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1956-1958 at Camp Hanford Atomic Works in the 1st Missile Battalion.  He married the love of his life, Joy Soder (Poell), on June 2, 1962.

 Norm worked as a plant engineer in the beverage industry for over 30 years - Foremost Dairy (Springfield Mo), Schlitz Brewery (KCK), and Mid-America Bottling Corp- Coca-Cola (Lenexa).  In the final years of his career, he worked for Biomune.  

In retirement he was an avid gardener, dog walker, and volunteer in his neighborhood and community.  He was an avid Chiefs fan and had season tickets for many years.  His favorite pastime in retirement was being a colorful and participatory spectator at his grandsons’ sporting events. 

Norman is survived by his wife Joy Soder, daughter Nicole (Kevin) Brown, grandsons Alex (Tori) Brown, Zachary Brown, and Spencer Brown, and brother Wilbur Soder.  He was preceded in death by his parents Lillian K. and Frank Soder, twin brother Marion F. Soder and Sister Eileen Soder. 

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday June 9, 2023 at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Kansas.  The inurnment will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Rd. Leavenworth, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Catholic Charities.
