     Clarene P. Smith, 88, of Kansas City, Kansas, died Sunday, January 8, 2023 at the The Piper.  Visitation will be from 10-10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Services at 10:30 AM Monday, January 16,  at Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave. Kansas City, KS.  Burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Inlieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the SPCA or the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City.

     Clarene was born March 27, 1934, in Kansas City, KS to Clarence and Ruth (Gwaltney) Jardon.  She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar L. Smith in 2017.  She is by two children: Bernie (Melody) Smith,  Marcia (Jim Bennett) Smith, sister Harriet Boggess, grandson Michael (Rachel) Smith, three great grandchildren Nolan, Bristol and Makiah, and many extended family.

Bernie, Marcia it is often hard to find the right words at times like this. I had the privilege of knowing your Mom for most of my life. She was my second Mom in my early years. She was an awesome person that gave me love and guidance. I share in your sorrow with love and friendship. Wishing you peace, comfort, courage and lots of love at this difficult time. No matter how old we are it is never easy to lose a parent.

Marcia~ I will always remember your Mom being onery! She always had something to say and loved to banter with you when the two of you didn’t agree. No matter the subject, she always had a comeback! But she had such a caring heart…every time she saw me whether at your folks house, the grocery store, or CVS she asked how I was doing. Always concerned about my diabetes being okay. Always asked about our daughter and Moe. Wanted to know if we still had dogs and was pleased when I told her each time “but of course”! Your Mom’s love will always be with you, Bernie, Mel, Michael and the great grandkids. We know losing a mom is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know. But Clarene’s goodness and her caring live on….like a legacy of love that will always be with you. I know that love will surround you now and bring you peace. Lots of love girlfriend. ??????????

I just heard about Clarene passing. I can only smile when I think of her. She was sooooo much fun. Her & Oscar has done soooo much my family. Things that can never be re paid. Their kindness, generosity & support thru many many years was invaluable & greatly appreciated. I can still hear her voice in my head and again it makes me smile.
