Apr 28, 1951---Nov 13, 2022

Daniel F. Beattie Jr., 71, passed away after a long illness on November 13, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be held from 11-12:30 p.m. with the Memorial Mass following at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 12800 W. 75th St. Shawnee, KS. A private family burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS on Friday.

Dan was born on April 28, 1951, in Chicago, IL, the son of Dan and Bobbe Beattie. After graduating with honors from Benedictine College, Dan was married to Dorothy Howard on June 2, 1973 at St. Benedict’s Church in Atchison, Kansas.

Dan spent almost the entirety of his accounting career in the audit department of BKD in Kansas City, Missouri. He retired as a partner in 2009.

Dan loved to golf and was a member of Shadow Glen Golf Club for 29 years. After retiring, Dan was able to spend winters pursuing this hobby in the sunshine in Scottsdale, AZ.

Dan’s family was truly the focus of his life. He was involved in all the kids activities, both as a coach and a spectator. Although he would never admit it, the “Family Christmas PJ’s” was one of the traditions he loved and treasured. Dan was so proud to be a “Papa” and he loved spending time with his “precious” grandchildren.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Pat Beattie.

Dan is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 49 years, his children Janese Surber (Mike) of Kansas City, MO, Megan Petty (Brandon) of Olathe, KS, Chrissy Duryee (Tracy) of Olathe, KS, Kelly McLaughlin (Jason) of Dallas, TX, Kathleen Mochel (Josh) of Shawnee, KS, and Daniel Beattie III of Dallas, TX; his seven grandchildren Avery Petty, Cade Petty, Brady McLaughlin, Reilly McLaughlin, Rory McLaughlin, Brynn Mochel, and Aniston Mochel; his brothers Michael Beattie (Laura) of Alexandria, VA, and Terry Beattie of Dwight, IL. He will be dearly missed by many friends.

A model of what a man should strive to be-kind, humble, sincere, trustworthy, honest, faithful, we could go on and on. Dan was truly a good person and he will be missed by family and friends. But Dan is now in a place where he can watch over and protect those he has left behind. We will miss you, Dan, but we will be with you again. Celeste and Tony
