Aug 29, 1948---Nov 07, 2022

Leah Lura Elliott Wilson, 74, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away on November 7, 2022, after a brief illness.

Leah was born in St. Joseph, Michigan. Because her father was in the Army, she moved around a lot during her childhood, but graduated from high school in Ft. Pierce, Florida. In early adulthood, she spent several years in California before moving to the Kansas City area in the early 1970’s.

For many years, she worked in the restaurant industry managing pizza places where she became quite skilled at knowing what makes an excellent pizza and what makes one just so-so. She was also very talented at working with people. Her excellent interpersonal skills lead her to a job working as an Account Manager at G.E. Capital for 23 years. Before her retirement in 2013, she was able to travel internationally and train others on how to give excellent customer service to even the most difficult people.

Leah leaves behind a daughter, Dina Lee, of Shawnee, Kansas. A son, Michael Wilson (Heather), of Paxton, Illinois, five grandchildren, Savannah Bennett (Brent Gunnells), Jonah Wilson (Sarah), Landon Wilson, Olivia Wilson, and Kate Wilson; one great grandson, Joey, and one great granddaughter due February 2023. She also leaves behind sisters, Sherry Parmeley, and Gale Woodell, as well as one brother, Jim Elliott. In addition to her biological family, she leaves behind a group of friends who were like family. They spent a lot of time together playing Bridge and having “Ladies Night Out.”

Those who loved her will remember her for so many reasons, but mostly for the things she loved. Leah loved playing board games with her family, which tended to bring out her competitive side. A great day for Leah would be starting the morning with a good cup of coffee, perusing thrift stores, and stopping for lunch at Culver’s for a fish sandwich, fries, and a rootbeer (bonus points if she could use a bendy straw.) She loved going to the movies, traveling, flamingos, and finding a good bargain. Some might say she was the world’s biggest fan of Days of Our Lives. She often spoke of the characters in regular conversation as though everyone around her was as invested in the storylines as she was.

It sounds cliche, but Leah will be terribly missed. Her laugh made everyone else laugh. She was friendly to everyone. She was quirky. She was independent and strong. She was a wonderful mom, doting grandma, patient and kind mother-in-law, devoted friend, and hard worker. “Like sands through the hourglass, so were the days of her life.”

Visitation will be from 4-5:00 PM, Friday, November 11, 2022 at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Street, Lenexa, KS followed by a Memorial Service at 5:00 PM.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House.

Leah was such a kind and friendly person. We worked together for a lot of years. When you work with someone for a lot of years you tend to become more than just a co-worker you also become friends. She will be truly missed by all her co-workers and friends at GE. RIP. Leah

I will always remember the look on Aunt Leah's face and the smile when we visited from Colorado one year. Five of us on two motorcycles. She was totally amazed how we did it. Aunt Leah was a light for those around her. She will be missed by family and friends.

Her trainee and big admirer/fan ,Dubai

Leah visited us in Hyderabad India as trainer and coach - we were young kids straight out of college in our first job as a CSR in GE Capital. She came with Tim who was a colleague for her at GE as well. She was kind, sweet and very patient. I only met her once in my life - for that 1 or 2 weeks. I might have also had a few professional calls of coaching post that trip. But even after 22 years…I still remember her kind personality and passion for making people better around her. She was an awesome person and humble human being. Rest in Peace Leah! Till we meet again! God bless her and the family!

Oh where do I start...Leah had the same birthdate as my mother so I knew we would get along. I was so excited when she said yes to travel internationally with me. Not just once but twice. I have so many stories to share so I have decided to share many....sorry. WE ARRIVE IN NEW DEHLI...we knew we were not in Kansas anymore from the sights... a boy riding a camel crossing the street in front of us. One day in Dehli it rained MUD windshield wipers kept going. Then we came home to Hotel Taj in Dehli to be greeted with guards dressed in black holding rifles. Yes it scared the crap out us however found out the President of Pakistan was arriving that day. Whew. We moved to Hyderabad after 6 or so weeks. A much cleaner and less populated...by a few Million. We loved Hyderabad and the people we met. We were fortunate to attend weddings, baptism and many parties. The people of India were very gracious to us. We got to come home every 6 to 8 weeks or so and therefore we took advantage of stopping somewhere on the weekends home to visit... Singapore Venice Italy Hawaii London Amsterdam And many more. When we arrived in India a guy took our bags took us to the car then drove gravel road to our hotel we thought we were being abducted. The memories Leah, Tim and I had were so funny...here are a few funnies... in London the shower nearly drowned us along with our room being so small it just had 3 twin beds side by side. Venice was fun however again a smaller room. We spent Christmas there and going to mass with everything in Italian was awesome. Also we had to walk on risers in the streets as Venice is sinking. Shopping was great. Then in Amsterdam we did a lot of sightseeing. I found out Coffe cafes were more than just selling coffees. The red district was a hoot. Hawaii was relaxing and fun. Oh London again very small rooms however great sight seeing. Singapore was a treat...a city, state and country all together. Leah and I got to enjoy Singapore again when we were on our way home 911 and had to stay over until we got the ok from Corporate to fly home. This time Joline and Amy were traveling with us. The day of 911 was quite scary as Hyderabad had a blackout as we we traveling to Cyber City in the dark and when we got into work we learned the towers had been hit. It changed our travel plans. AND OUR LIVES. Rest in Peace Leah and know you are LOVED. The past 10 years I have lived in many places and regretfully did not keep up as I should have.

Met Leah when she first came over to handhold and help us, at Hyderabad in India as an SME (subject matter expert) and Coach, along with Meg. They were helping all of us at GE (Customer Service Inbound). I remember her as being soft spoken, caring and extremely patient especially since handling our doubts/queries required these qualities. Even though it's been over 2 decades since I last saw her, she clearly left an impression. Please convey our condolences to her family and friends. May you rest in peace Leah!

Leah was a sweet soul with the sweetest smile which never faded in any situation... It's been almost 2 decades and even now when you think of Leah, all you can think of is her smiling and being the kindest person to a fresh college graduate who was trying so hard to stay awake on night shifts and handle work. Condolences to her family for their loss.

First, I would like to send my condolences to Leah's family and I'm sorry to hear she has passed away. It certainly has brought back memories of us working together at GE Capital (I was there 2001-2010). I started out as a CSR and she was one of many go-to's at the help desk. In 2004, an opportunity came up to go to India. Leah, Johnna, Luis, Mandy, Joline and I made the cut to head out to Hyderabad. I had never been so excited in all my life but I knew I was in good hands with the group I was going with.. We were able to visit a lot of places and had MANY adventures while there... "Smuggling" (TSA's words) in bite size Hershey bars by the pound and passing them around at cyber towers, visiting a few unique schools, ate a lot of new foods and tried new drinks, took part in cultural ceremonies, crazy car and van rides where only the very brave would sit up front!, dashing across 4 lanes of traffic; which was more like 10 lanes ( I counted!), Golconda Fort, Bottles and Chimney, camel riding, a magic show, witnessing a beautiful wedding that took place at our hotel, temples/mosques, watching a herd of cows walk in front of us in the middle of the city, riding rickshaws...and last but not least dancing with the GE reps at one of the work functions..One Of the best moments we had while there! We had SO MUCH FUN. Leah's easy going, fun personality, and guidance helped the trip much more enjoyable than it already was. Being 21 at the time; that trip is something I will never forget. REST IN PEACE LEAH ♥️🌏
