Kimberly “Kim” Ann Cox, 56, Lenexa, KS, passed away on Sunday, September 4, at the University of Kansas Hospital after a year long battle with ovarian cancer, throughout which she demonstrated perseverance, bravery, love, and faith in God’s plan for her. Kim was preceded in death by her mother, Jane C. Smith and her father, Russell “Glen” Smith and is survived by her only daughter, Brittany R. Cox, and two grandchildren, Leo S. Barton and Navi R. Barton.
Kim grew up in Shawnee, Kansas. She attended Shawnee Mission Christian school and graduated in 1984. She began working in the summer of 1984 at Tallgrass Technologies. Kim also worked for Kimberly Quality Care but in 1994 became a homemaker. She moved to Lenexa, Kansas in 2000 and lived there until her passing.
Kim was a loving mother, Gigi, and friend. Her grandchildren were the absolute joy of her life. Kim loved the Lord and faithfully served him her whole life. She was a vessel for his love and shared it through her words and actions alike.
Kim loved to teach and will be remembered by those who’s hearts she touched through teaching 1st grade Sunday School at OPBT for 20 years. Kim was a homemaker and dedicated mom who homeschooled her daughter elementary through high school. She lived her message through volunteering her time to her church community and Gateway of Hope.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, September 16, at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Lenexa, KS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, at LifeMission Church, 16111 S. Lone Elm Rd. Olathe, KS 66062. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Bonner Springs, KS.
