Philip E. Bumgartner, age 81, of Lenexa, Kansas was born on September 5th, 1940 to Howard and Mildred Bumgartner in Kansas City, Kansas.  Philip attended Argentine High School, Kansas City Kansas Community College and Baker University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.  Philip became an operating engineer and was employeed by Schlitz Brewing Company followed by TWA and American Airlines, retiring in 2005.  Philip was a 50 year member of Metropolitan Avenue United Methodist Church.  He belonged to the Shawnee masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and the Abdallah Shrine.  Philip and his family enjoyed traveling and cruising over the years.  The favorite travel destination was Hawaii with many trips to the islands.  Prior to failing health, the family has many happy memories at the lake house at Lake Viking. Philip's family was of importance to his life and will greatly miss his wit, love and dedication to them.  Philip is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy (Kuhns) Bumgartner, and three daughters, Christie Coen (Kevin), Beth Carney (Chris), and Amy Lieberman (Zach).  Also surviving are his wonderful grandchildren, Jessica Coen, Christopher Coen (Keri), Cadey Carney-Goforth (Trevor), Jacob Lieberman and Caroline Lieberman and great-grandchildren, Isiah Coen, Brooklyn Coen, Gage Coen, Kain Coen, Bryn Coen, and Amilia Coen.   Philip is also survived by his sweet dog, Maggie.  Philip is proceeded in death by his two beloved grandsons, Chad Coen and Alex Carney. The Family wishes to thank the wonderful personnel at Westchester Village of Lenexa for their loving care given to him during his stay with them. Phil was the steadfast foundation and rock of the family and will be greatly missed.  God has called you home and removed all suffering.  We love you, until we meet again, your loving family.  

Please join us for a celebration of life on Friday, July 29th from 5-7:00 pm at the home of Amy and Zach Lieberman 13281 Fairway Rd. Leawood, KS.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association or Midwest Transplant in memory of Philip.

We remember phil as we would enjoy speaking over the fence. When we had to transfer to Minnesota we lost the best neighbors a couple could ask for.
