Jan 24, 1948---Jun 30, 2022

Doug Riffel of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, passed away at the age of 74 on June 30, 2022. Doug was a veteran of the Navy, serving on the USS Constellation during the Vietnam War. Doug’s life took him from Kansas City, Ks; to Topeka, Ks; and finally Sunrise Beach, Mo.  He worked for Southwestern Bell as an installer and lineman from 1976 to 2013 in Topeka and Sunrise Beach, all the while loving it and having many stories of his work. Doug was a proud member of Boy Scouts Troop 1 at Immanuel Baptist Church and spent many summers at Camp Naish.  He was a Corvette Club member at the Lake of the Ozarks, Point Supreme HOA, and volunteered at Share the Harvest frequently. An avid fisherman, jet skier, and hunter, he spent much of his time outdoors. Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Helen and his father, Leo. He is survived by his brother, Mike and his wife, Luanne of Kansas City, Mo; his nephew, Brad and his wife, Debby of Omaha, Ne; his great-niece, Janey of Omaha, Ne; his nephew, Blair and his wife, Sara of Omaha, Ne; and the many friends he made at The Lake, KCKS, Topeka, and all-points in-between. Doug will be greatly missed by all. A visitation will be held July 16 from 9:30-11:30 at Porter’s Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave, Kansas City, Ks. While you toast him, please consider making a donation, in his name, to Camp Naish-Heart of America Boy Scout Council Campership Fund at 10210 Holmes Rd., KCMO 64131.

I am sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. I worked with Doug for several years here at the lake. I hadn’t seen or talked to Doug for quite a while but would think of him occasionally, wondering what he was up to. Lol Comfort to the family.

I only met Doug last year but because he loved his Corvette I shared the video of our Drive last weekend. If you would like for me to do a tribute video to Doug give me a call or email and I can do another video that is more appropriate to honor Doug. I know it will be difficult for you in the coming months. Sorry to hear that Doug has passed.
