Feb 04, 1933---May 11, 2022

Richard Kenneth Poettgen (Dick) age 89 from Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully on May 11, 2022.  During his last days, he was surrounded by his loving family and was supported by Priests and volunteers from the Church of the Ascension Catholic Church.   Richard (Dick) was born on February 4, 1933, in Kansas City, MO.  He graduated from Bishop Hogan high school in 1950 and then went on to study at Rockhurst University and graduated in 1955 with a degree in accounting. He married his wife Regina, the love of his life, on October 13,1962 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Kansas City, MO. Prior to retiring at the age of 65 he worked for 30 years at Waddell and Reed as a Mutual Fund manager.

Dick had a wonderful sense of humor and was known to be kind and polite to anyone he would meet. He enjoyed dining and traveling with his family and friends, and it was his goal to see the world. Many days were spent at Milburn Country Club where he enjoyed the amenities of the club. Golf was his favorite sport and he played almost every weekend until Parkinson’s took over his health. He also played in bridge groups as well as bridge tournaments for several years and continued to play during his years in assisted living. As a father, he took his girls to many Royals games, was a big KC Chiefs football fan and enjoyed following the Kansas University basketball team. Chess was another game he enjoyed playing and teaching to his grandchildren who he adored greatly.

After completing college, Dick served in the US Army for 2 years and was proud to be a veteran.

He is preceded death by his wife, Regina, parents Leo Poettgen and Nelle (Houston) Poettgen and brother Don Poettgen.  He is survived by his sister Carol (Poettgen) Manley of Shawnee, KS, his daughter Denise Ketelle (Dan) of Olathe, KS, Diana Poettgen of Overland Park, KS, grandchildren Kaitlin, Alex and Anna Ketelle.
