Patty, we are so sad about the loss of Leon. We have been friends with you and Leon for more then 36 years since the kids were in preschool. Leon and John have worked together on numerous projects going back to the construction of Ascension and St. James Academy. Most recently they worked diligently on the design and construction of the Adoration Chapel at Ascension. We will miss our always engaging conversation with you and Leon after noon Mass. Patti and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Leon was such a special man. He was so good to me when I came on as the “new kid on the block” at the Chancery, always willing to answer my many questions. Over the years I witnessed that he is a man of deep faith and confidence in eternal life. Until we meet again…

Dear Patti and family, Our hearts are aching for your loss. ❤️ Leon was such a gift to the Archdiocese of Kansas City in KS. I was fortunate enough to meet Leon while working on the St James Academy Chapel Committee. Our committee worked alongside of Leon on the design of the interior, statuary, and etched windows for Chapel. I’m not sure many people realize that he and Joe Skeeba (the Lawrence based artist for the etched windows) actually worked hand and hand to locate, transport, and carve the boulder that penetrates the glass behind the chapel altar. Leon’s attention to detail during the entire built of St James and the design of every detail in the chapel was incredible. It is, because of him, an extraordinary space. A few years later, I worked with Leon again on the renovation of Holy Spirit Church…once again he helped lead the committee to a beautiful and sacred design. In 2014 Jack and I asked Leon to design a home for us. He spent endless hours on every detail and made our home a reality. His very first design drawing was exactly what we had envisioned. We didn’t change a thing! It was perfect, and we had so much fun working with him. Leon leaves behind the legacy of a beautiful family…but he also leaves behind the legacy of his work in the Archdiocese. My guess is, in some way, his thumb print is on every parish (actually every property of the Archdiocese) and all are better, and more beautiful because of him. Patti, we will miss Leon at our dinner group…but we will continue to meet and know that he will be with us in spirit! Every time I see an orange truck or a leather cowboy hat… I will think of Leon Roberts and smile! We love you Patti! Jack and Kathi Rohr

Patti, Nicki and I are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Leon. Such wonderful memories of you and your family as neighbors for almost 30 years! We watched each others' children play in the cup-de-sac every day and helped keep the kids safe and protected in a wonderful environment. You and Leon were a huge part of those wonderful years with such great memories. To you, Dawn, Natalie and Richard we send our love and know that we will all meet again in the presence of our Savior. Patti - Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. Leon will be missed. For years he was a great competitor in designing schools with H+M. later he became a phenomenal client of ours while he led the design and construction of all the Archdiocese facilities. Leon was talented, driven and always had a great sense of humor in all that he did. He was a joy to be around. We enjoyed seeing him here in KC and at the lake on weekends. What a great man! We will miss him being in our lives. Mark

He believed in the importance of accessibility for all to parish buildings and he walked the talk!! I am so grateful to have known him. God bless you with His grace and peace. Sincerely Tom Racunas

Please accept my sincere condolences. Leon and I go way back. It was my pleasure to know him for over 20 years. He was the guiding spirit behind the design and construction of the BV School where I was principal, Tomahawk Ridge Elementary. I spoke with him just a couple of weeks ago at Mass and he told me he was doing fine. Typical of Leon who never complained that I was aware of. He was a true gentleman, wise and respectful of everyone. I will miss him.
