Thomas E. Lavin, 83, Olathe, Kansas, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021.
A visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m.with the Rosary being prayed at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 30, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W. 103rd St., Overland Park, KS. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 1:30 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas.
Tom was born on December 16, 1937, in Seminole, Oklahoma, the son of Thomas and Margaret (O'Hara) Lavin. When his father died at a young age, the family moved to Parsons, Kansas, where he grew up and went to high school. He then received a bachelor’s degree in education from Pittsburg State University.
Tom served in the Navy from 1959-1965. After being discharged from the Navy, he joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation serving as a Special Agent for 23 years, retiring in 1988. He participated in a wide variety of investigations, including organized crime, the kidnapping of Patty Hearst, and the attempted shooting of President Gerald Ford by “Squeaky” Fromme. He was later employed part-time as a drug testing officer for the NFL assigned to the Chiefs.
Tom was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret (Dale) Neth. Tom is survived by his brother, Lawrence (Carol Sue) Lavin, and nephews and nieces Tom (Joyce) Neth, Lee Ann (Craig) Ring, Lawrence (Karen) Lavin, Jr., David (Caroline) Lavin, James (D’Lise) Lavin, and Anne (Luke) Wehrman. He has numerous grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.
