Jul 06, 1940---Jul 19, 2021

Jackie (Jack) C. Loun, 81 passed away on July 19, 2021.  Jack graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1958 and served in the U.S. Army Reserve.  He retired from KDOT after 30 years of service.  He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Arrow. After retirement, Jack loved working part-time for QT as a competition counter. He also volunteered for the KCK police department and Providence Medical Center.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, George and Edith Loun and two nephews.  Jack is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Dercher), of 43 years and his children: Jamie (Ken) Klingenberg, Tammy (Keith) Snyder and Phil (Sarah) Loun. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren: Sidney (fiancé Troy) Austin, Sam, Abby, Jacob and Ella (who were very dear to his heart). He is also survived by his sister, Judy (Bill) Perry, brother, Jim Loun, sister-in-law Stella Slater, brother-in-law Robert (Mary Ann) Dercher, nieces, many close neighbors, and lake friends.

Jack had many friends, and if it were not for his wood carving buddies, he would not have been able to continue wood carving in his later years. He really enjoyed their friendship, and they were very important to him.

Jack enjoyed spending time at his lake house, he enjoyed having a cold beer, driving his pontoon and golf cart and his many casino trips.

Visitation will be from 9-10:00 am with a funeral mass following at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 23, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1086 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Greater KC, 5445 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS 66104 or St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

There are some KCKCC Wellness Center members that we lose and I say, “geez the Wellness Center will not be the same without them”, Jack is one of those members. We love Jack. I was always so happy to see him and didn’t realize when he and Phyllis came in at the beginning of the summer it would be the last time I would see him. I hope he is doing an extra lap for me and looking down and giving me that ornery Jack grin. We will miss Jack. Sending Phylis a big hug and offering condolences to Jack’s family and friends.

Thinking of you all at this time. Grandpa Jack was a very kind and funny man. His love for his family was evident each time he’d come in, usually had one or multiple of his grandkids with him. I have very fond memories of his visits to the office each Friday. I know his presence will be truly missed. Hugs and prayers to you all.

Cousin through my mom Betty Loun Wright ,Star

My family and I had the pleasure of meeting Jack many years ago. My mother Betty Loun Wright was his cousin. She used to go back to Kansas and visit her family and stay with Jack and Phyllis and one of those times we (my husband Marv and son Kaiden) went with her. We had so much fun. My son still remembers swimming in their pool and Captain Jack letting him drive his boat! My son Kaiden is really into playing baseball and Jack was always interested in that. We had hoped that someday Jack would get to see him play. Today Kaiden said that Jack can watch him play every game from heaven now. Phyllis - we are sending you and your family lots of love and prayers.
