Jerry LeBar, 81, of Overland Park, KS passed away at The University of Kansas Hospital on 9 June. He is survived by his wife Elaine (53 years of marriage), daughter Erica (Col Brad Cowley), son Dirk LeBar (Sheri Gormley), grandkids Owen (23), Morgan (20), Lilly (18) and George (6) and brothers Jim and John LeBar and beloved dogs Jake and Fletch. Jerry was preceded in death by his parent’s George & Dorothy LeBar and brother Tom LeBar. Jerry grew up in Kansas City, Kansas graduating from Wyandotte High School in 1958, Kansas City Kansas Community College in 1962 and Pittsburg State University in 1964, while playing basketball and running track and field. Jerry worked as an Industrial Relations Director in the packaging (Sealright Company), garment (Gay Gibson) and brake (Midland Brake) industries for 30 years. Additionally, Jerry spent 10 years as a substitute teacher in the Shawnee Mission and Turner School districts, where he genuinely enjoyed teaching and working with students. Jerry spent 20+ years coaching his daughter in swimming and softball and son in baseball and basketball. He truly enjoyed mentoring and coaching young people, challenging them to become better each and every day. Jerry genuinely enjoyed traveling with family to various places collecting and telling stories along the way, enjoying each other as a family. As such, Jerry always made time to spend with his family, which is what he loved doing most. He was always the optimist about everything; the glass was not half full, but at least 80% full and not ever half empty. He will be greatly missed by all. A Celebration of Life will be held in early August to all family and friends. Date and location to be determined. Contributions can be made to the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired Kansas City and Wyandotte County Parks Foundation, C/O Unified Gov’t Parks Dept. 5033 State Ave, KC, KS 66102.

Elaine, Erica & Dirk. I’m so sorry to hear about Jerry. I’m so glad back in 1972 you moved in Next door! I will never forget him carrying Erica & Dirk as toddlers around the neighborhood for a “walk” He was such a fun jokester and never let me forget “the fireplace incident “ even years later. His laugh will live on in my mind. Keeping you all in my prayers Kim
