Eileen, known as Poppy in her younger years and by her family still, grew up in East Stratton England during the Depression and WWII. She left school at 14 which was common then, to work as a house maid. She also worked in a laundry, a chocolate factory, and a canteen. She met her husband Allen, who was in the Air Force at the time and from New York City, at a dance at Greenham Common Air Base. They married in 1959. Allen was relocated to Clovis, NM in 1961. Poppy came over a little later on the Queen Mary. From there they were stationed in Virginia, and England. When Allen left the Air Force they relocated to Kansas City, KS in 1969 to be near one of Poppy's sisters who lived here as well.

Poppy has been an active member in several United Methodist Churches in Kansas City, KS. She was a member of the UMW. She also volunteered for Cancer Action, and Lap Quilt. In her later years she enjoyed going on senior trips and spending time with her friends. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, knitting, and watching old movies. She enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She was a very generous person who donated to several charities on a regular basis.

She battled several health obstacles during her lifetime and she fought hard through each one of them. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but they are comforted in knowing that she is now pain free and at peace.
