I met Ms. Hernandez at Frank Rushton. She was a great person well respected for her love to her profession and her love to the kids which led her back to the classroom in the years prior to her retirement. Mari was well respected for all her acquaintances at Frank Rushton for her wisdom and guidance during the years as lead teacher and for the kind person that she was. She is going to be missed for her kindness towards others. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you .

I am so sad and shocked to hear about Mary's passing. I worked with Mary at White Church, and she was a leader who was passionate about teaching all kids to become better readers. I am thankful I had the chance to work with Mary, because her enthusiasm about teaching was infectious. Mary challenged me to become a better reading teacher and for that I am thankful. I’m saddened to learn of Mary’s passing. I’m so sorry. I remember how much of an impact Mary made on my life so early on in my childhood development. I remember I was envious of the other kids that only went to kindergarten for half of the day, but then thankful to have gone all day because I had the best teacher; Mary. We recently connected on Facebook, and I remember saying Ms. F!!! Loved her dearly.

My heart is saddened. Mary was an amazing friend. Watching her teach little ones to read or cheering on a teacher through a challenging situation showed us a glimpse of her heart. Hearing her tell me stories about her love, Mr. George and the wonderful dinners he would cook showed me the immense capacity she had to love. My friend will be missed terribly.
