May 10, 1982 -- April 18, 2018

Joel C. Reed, 35, Lenexa, KS, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the University of Kansas Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Porter Funeral Home 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Funeral Home.  Burial in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to The Automotive Aftermarket Charitable Foundation or to the Westwood Cancer Center of the University of Kansas Hospital.      Joel was born May 10, 1982, in Kansas City, KS. Joel had worked for O'Reilly Auto Parts for 20 years in commercial counter sales at numerous locations, spending the majority of his career at the 75th and Metcalf location. Joel also enjoyed working in the family business at Fritz’s Railroad Restaurant. He was an avid hunter, car enthusiast, and lifelong Royals fan. Joel demonstrated courage and bravery during his 16 month battle with cancer. His attitude was inspiring and gave his family strength during this difficult time. Joel loved his family and always put them first. Joel is remembered with love by his son Mason, mother and step-father Mary and Fred Kropf, father and step-mother Jack and Laurie Reed, his sister Keely Kropf, brothers Fred Kropf, Ryan Reed (Jada), Carl Reed (Christina), step-brother Josh Kropf, his loving grandfather Joseph Baich, loving grandmother, Virginia Kropf and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The family wants to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Huang and team at the Westwood Cancer Center of the University of Kansas for the exceptional care they provided Joel.
