Zachary David Graas , Age: 24
June 07, 1993 -- March 24, 2018

Diagnosed with brain cancer six and a half years ago, Zachary David Graas never knew the word quit. He never complained, he maintained a positive, forward-looking and brave outlook on the future -- even as he underwent numerous radiation and chemotherapy treatments, hospitalizations, surgeries and tremendous pain. He began each day looking to accomplish great things and appreciate the vivid world he made for himself.

Zach died at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City on Saturday, March 24th at 10:15 a.m. surrounded by his loving family and deep-rooted, widespread network of friends.

Zach was born on June 7th, 1993 in Springfield, Mo. He lived in Springdale, Ark.; Fulton, Mo.; Olathe, Kan.; Lawrence, Kan.; Denver, Colo.; and finally, Kansas City, Kan. He attended the University of Kansas before earning his Bachelor’s degree with the Recording Radio Film Connection and later earned his Master’s Certificate in Audio Engineering at the Colorado Sound Studio in Denver, Colo.

Zach was licensed as a real estate agent in three states, and most recently worked with the ReeseNichols Real Estate Agency in Kansas City. In his free time, he recorded music with a professional studio set-up in his bedroom. Zach was a talented drummer, longboard rider and boat dock jumper. Filled with vigor, laughter, heart, and style; Zach made music and friends with his whole soul. Zach worked each day at making his dreams come true and making a rewarding, colorful life for himself. He was brilliant and bold with music, wholehearted with his family, earnest and animated with his friends and openly excited about all the opportunities the world may offer.

Zach’s life will be celebrated with a visitation service at Pope John Paul II Chapel at St. James Academy, 24505 Prairie Star Pkwy, Lenexa, Kan. on Friday, April 6th from 5-8 p.m. Cocktail and festive attire is encouraged. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. John Paul II Chapel at St. James Academy at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7th; with a small reception to follow. The inurnment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can made to the Zach Graas Scholarship Fund, in the care of Tim Graas, to the funeral home at 8535 Monrovia Street, Lenexa, KS 66215 or donations can be made in Zach’s name to the American Brain Tumor Association www.abta.org/donate. I had never met Zach, but I know thru conversations I had with Tim over time that Zach was a very special young man with so much to accomplish in life. I am so very proud to have met this young man and experienced his tenacity for life. God puts people in your life for a reason, and the reason for Zach in my life is not lost on me. He has made a profound difference in my life, that will ultimately be felt in my family's life once we begin accepting cancer "Zach style". I am my brother's keeper, and Zach has left his mark on me!
