Dr. John M. "Jack" Holt, 82, Lenexa, KS, died peacefully with his wife and children by his side on Friday, February 2, 2018. Jack was born in Liberal, KS, to William and Mary (Morrison) Holt. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Holt, Jr. Jack graduated from Fowler High School in 1953 where he'd met the love of his life, Charlette Handy. The varsity captain and cheerleader married in 1957 while he was a first year student at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Jack graduated from KU as a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity in 1957, KU Medical School in 1961, then began his residency in Wichita at St. Francis Hospital. In search of a good family town, Jack opened his Internal Medicine practice in Great Bend, KS, in 1965, where he practiced for 24 years. During that time, he earned his Fellowship of Internal Medicine. Not quite ready to retire, Jack returned to Wichita in 1989 to serve patients and fulfill his love of mentoring residents at the KU School of Medicine and the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center. He retired in 1998. In 2014 he moved to Lenexa. Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years, Charlette, and five children: John (Suzy) Holt of Leawood, KS,  Robert (Tammy) Holt of Great Bend, KS, Elizabeth (Paul) Jantsch of Cincinnati, OH, Thomas (Mindy) Holt of Baldwin City, KS, and Mary (Vic) Adamle of Woodbury, MN. Other survivors include a brother, James Holt of Shawnee, KS, thirteen grandchildren: Jack (Emily) Holt, Katie (Chad) Moes, Brett (Leslie) Holt, Brad Holt, Allan Holt, Carrie (James) Leonard, Lauren (Mike Britton) Jantsch, Megan Jantsch, Evan (Meghan) Captain, Alex Holt, Amy Adamle, Tony Adamle, Joey Adamle, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Jack was loved not only by his family, but friends, colleagues, and his extended family of patients who benefited not only from his skills as a physician, but his humor and bedside manner that endeared him to those he served. He lived selflessly for his faith, family, and friends. Charlotte-- It is with great sadness, I read Jack's obituary in the Wichita paper. Both of you were fixtures and role models at STA for many years. But, mainly, I will never forget the love, care, energy, talent and creativity that you and Jack put into creating the beautiful, unique Santa I gave to my husband for an anniversary gift! It was a gift to get to know you and work with you-- every year, I think of both of you when I put Santa in a special place!! Thank you for being such incredible people! May God continue to strengthen and comfort all of your family. In sympathy and prayer, Colleen Dondlinger

Prayers for the Holt family. Dr Holt always welcomed me into the household, even when I wore a KState jersey! He was a kind and gentle man who had to put up with a lot of our noise, backyard football games, and constant eating of cereal. Rest in Peace.

Dear Holt Family : Please accept our condolences in the loss of a dear family friend who touched all our lives in Great Bend , Kansas not so many years ago. Your home was always so inviting wether on Apache St. in Indian Heights or on Dove Terrace in Quail Creek. In spite of our dads being so busy in their medical practices, we're fortunate to have their influence help make us who we are today. Dr. Holt was always the calm and patient dad who everyone liked to be around and will be greatly missed.WCCZ
