Steven Thomas Cohenour , Age: 15
September 27, 2002 -- January 22, 2018

Steven Thomas Cohenour, 15, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018. Memorial Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, January 27, at the Lenexa Baptist Church, 15320 West 87th Street Pkwy, Lenexa, KS 66219.

Steven was born September 27, 2002, in Overland Park, Kansas. While he resided in the city of Lenexa, he attended several Shawnee Mission schools: Mill Creek Elementary, Trailridge Middle and Shawnee Mission Northwest High. From the time he was an infant, he displayed the most brilliant smile and loved to laugh. Several of his teachers and mentors along the way commented that he wore his emotions on his face. When he smiled, it was difficult not to join in the fun. Always, he was a clever, sensitive and observant young man and will be sorely missed by many.

While he participated in many sports along the way (it has been reported that he played a GREAT game of dodgeball), Steven loved baseball. An avid Royals fan, he played for many years with the Shawnee Cougars at 3&2 Baseball Club of Johnson County and Tom Urquhart's School of Baseball. While his favorite position was pitcher, he played several other positions that demanded his throwing arm and instinct for the game.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Friends of Johnson County Mental Health Center, 6000 Lamar Avenue, Suite 130, Mission, KS 66202, would be appreciated.

He is survived by his parents Mark and Rebecca, brother Greg Shaw, sister Kasey, grandparents, Jeff and Helen Cohenour, Jackie and Ray Hendrix, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and, of course, friends. While we were fortunate to have been blessed with his presence for only a short time, the time spent is precious and will last a lifetime.

Dear family of Steven: My husband, Ron and I offer our deepest sympathy at the loss of your son. We lost our daughter, Rebecca Jane in 2007, to a drunk driving crash. We were living in Kansas at the time. As you move past the funeral and visitation of family and friends, we would urge you to attend a Compassionate Friends meeting. My husband and I did and found them to be so supportive and understanding of our intense pain. May God be with you all and lift you up to His comfort and peace. Sincerely- Karen and Ron Trible and family PS Please use our email address to contact us if we can help in your grieving process. We do understand.

I well remember such a precious child within our school, Mill Creek Elementary. Am sure Steven remembered me as the "school lunch lady." He was so very dear and such a delightful child -- you have been much blessed. Love and joy to you each, Mrs. Bocox
