James P `Jim` Secondo , Age: 78
April 10, 1939 -- January 10, 2018

On Wednesday, January 10, 2018, Jim Secondo, 78, passed away peacefully at Kansas City Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ninfa Secondo. He is survived by his wife, Karol, children Pete, of Overland Park and Paula of Connecticut, sister Michela Jameson, of Florida and many nephews and nieces. Jim was born April 10, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York. He moved to Pittsburg, KS in 1962 to attend Pittsburg State University where he earned a degree in industrial arts. While at Pittsburg State University he was an active member of the Newman Club where he met Mary Karol Glick. They were married on January 23, 1965 in Pittsburg, KS. His career began at Northeast High School in Kansas City, MO where he taught printing, driver’s education and served as the wrestling coach. He then accepted a supervisory position with the Shawnee Mission School District tasked with the challenge of establishing an in-house print shop which would service the needs of countless educators and students. After 30 years of dedicated service he retired. Jim was an avid league bowler for the duration of his life and earned several honors for numerous 299 games, as well as the lifetime awards for a 300 game, 600 series and 800 series. Jim competed annually in state-wide tournaments and helped to organize the Knights of Columbus Annual State Bowling Tournament for many years. Though frustrated by the game, he also loved to golf. Jim also coached his sons 7th and 8th grade tackle football team and was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan. Before moving to St. Pius parish in Mission, he was an active member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overland Park. Jim was one of the founding fathers of the Knights of Columbus Father Carl Zawacki Council No. 10841. He served as the KOC financial secretary for 20 years and participated in their many fund-raising activities such as the sunrise breakfasts, fish fry and Tootsie Roll campaigns. While at Queen, he was also an usher and Eucharistic Adoration participant The Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 15th at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5500 Woodson, Mission, KS to be immediately followed by the Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to made to Kansas City Hospice House at www.kchospice.org. or St. Pius X Catholic Church Capital Campaign at www.spxmission.org.

My thoughts and prayers are with Karol and family.....Jim has always been a great guy and certainly did his part in working with young people in our education system......he made a positive impact on many young people....quite an accomplishment......
