Shirley Ann Grove , Age: 88
July 20, 1929 -- December 06, 2017

Shirley Ann Grove passed away peacefully surrounded by family Wednesday, December 6th, at the age of 88. Shirley was born in Kansas City, MO on July 20, 1929 to Denver and Allie Lovelady. She grew up in Kansas City with her younger sister and best friend, Marilyn. Shirley graduated from Paseo High School and continued her education at Kansas City Missouri Junior College where she became a Registered Medical Technologist. Shortly after, she moved on to Baker University where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Shirley graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and went on to be a medical technician at Menorah Medical Center. She worked briefly in Daytona Beach before marrying Donald Grove, a naval aviator, whom she met at Baker University. They had three sons together; Curt, Doug and Tom. Shirley then decided to pursue a career in education at Emporia State University. She later became an educator and counselor and worked for over 20 years in the Olathe school district continuing her support throughout her life. Shirley had a lifelong interest in the arts, participating in her church choir and community theatre. She had a passion for education and stressed the importance of continued learning to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe, KS and loved spending time with family. Shirley was an avid bridge player and enjoyed socializing and supporting her many friends. Shirley was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She is preceded in death by Donald Grove, Stan Aufdemberge and her grandson Eric. Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memory; her sister Marilyn, her three sons Curt (Sandi), Doug (Katie) and Tom (Chris), six grandchildren, Jacob, Samantha, Ben, Allie, Matthew and Bayliss and step grandchildren Zach and Ben (Kacey). (In leu of flowers, feel free to donate to Olathe Hospice House or the Alzheimer's Association (Heart of America Chapter). Memorial services will be 1:30 pm Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Grace United Methodist Church, 11485 S. Ridgeview Rd.
