Donald Rodgers Jackson , Age: 78
March 23, 1939 -- November 27, 2017

Donald R. Jackson, 78, of Shawnee, KS (recently of Lenexa, KS) passed away November 25, 2017 at KU Medical Center after a courageous 2-year battle with acute myeloid leukemia. A celebration of his life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6th at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Street, Lenexa, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the charity of your choice.

Don was born March 23, 1939, the son of Forrest R. “Frosty” and Nell Lucille (Dunkin) in Louisville, KY. Both preceded him in death.

Don entered the Air Force after college and was stationed in Dayton, Ohio and San Antonio, TX. Following his military service, he went to work for Acme Visible Records, ending his career there as Director of Marketing in Charlottesville, VA. He then moved to Kansas City and worked for many years as a manufacturer's representative for several office furniture companies.

Don was an avid golfer as a member of the Brookridge Country Club and later as a marshal and member of the senior league at Tomahawk Hills Golf Course. He also was an avid follower of KU football (yes, hard to believe) and was a member of a KU football tailgate group for almost 30 years as well as a season ticket holder for the much-easier-to-love KU basketball team. He also loved travel and spent hours planning trips both here and abroad.

Don is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shirley; son, Dave and his wife Susie of Alexandria, VA and their children Savannah, Kaelin, Halle and Davis and son Steve and his wife Tracy of Loveland, OH and their children Sam (Sara), Mallory and Nick and his sister Sue Blunk of Martinsville, IN.
