Duane G. Van Dorn, 90, Kansas City, KS, died Saturday, July 31, 2021, at the Riverbend Post Acute & Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 4th, at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave. Kansas City, KS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to: Wesley United Methodist Church, Abdallah Shrine, or Lions Club.
Duane was born August 17, 1930 in Kansas City, KS, the son of Neal and Lela Van Dorn. He was a 1950 graduate of Wyandotte High School and then attended Kansas State University. At that time, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He worked as a Superintendent on many construction jobs in the metro area. Duane was a member of Roger E. Sherman # 369 for 68 years, was a member of the Scottish Rite for 50 years, and was a Abdallah Shrine Clown. He served as president while a member of the Lions Club and was the Associate Bethel Guardian of Bethel 51 of Job’s Daughters. Duane had achieved Brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow in the Boy Scouts as an adult and a Life rank as a youth. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Duane enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling with his wife and was a dedicated husband, loving father, and grandfather.
Duane was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dolores J. (Mock) Van Dorn and is survived by their daughter Kimberly (Jeff) Van Dorn-Robinson, grandson, James Cate III, and sister, Norma McCune.
