Raymond "Lee" Wheeler, Jr., 61, of Roeland Park, Kansas, died in his home, surrounded by family on Monday, March 22, 2021. He was born in Wichita, Kansas to Raymond Lee and Judith Dando Wheeler. His family eventually moved to Mission, Kansas, where he attended Shawnee Mission North.   He majored in electrical engineering at the University of Missouri Kansas City and received numerous recognitions for academic excellence in the engineering school.

Lee was a consulting engineer by trade with a brilliant and curious mind for fixing things. On any given day you could find him tinkering or repairing anything from a dishwasher to a Volvo, a furnace to a computer. If he couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed. He loved spending time with his family, friends, watching all types of car racing, being at his cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks and being on the water in his Cobalt boat.

Lee worked as a broadcast engineer and consulting engineer in the Kansas City market for over 35 years, was instrumental in moving several major radio stations into the Kansas City market, (KCFX FM, KCJK FM), designing radio studios and transmitter sites not only in this market but in the Midwest region and beyond. Although most of his life he worked in the broadcast industry, in the past few years he became Director of Maintenance for Prism Real Estate Services, a job he found challenging and rewarding.

He was predeceased by his father Raymond L Wheeler Sr. He is survived by his mother Judith Ann Townsend, sister Christine Jordan, and brother Travis (Kathy) Scott, his amazing wife of 42 years, Sally, children Eric (Lauren) Wheeler and Madylene (Cody) McClure and granddaughter Sadie Wheeler.

Visitation will be from 10-11:00 AM followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 25, at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Kansas. The family has requested no live stream to honor Lee's wishes.   If you are not comfortable attending a live service, we completely understand during this difficult time.   Please, if you prefer, send us a note or share your thoughts on this site.  Thank you.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Victory Junction www.victoryjunction.org   The familly greatly appreciates all of the help, prayers and well wishes from everyone.

Co-worker (retired) ,Overland Park ,Kansas

The world has certainly lost a wonderful person. I worked with Lee at Prism Real Estate Services. Lee's passion, caring and thoughtful personality and talents touched the lives of so many co-workers and residents. Lee made a difference in the world. Lee's last words to me on my retirement farewell video were so elegantly spoken, "Champagne wishes and caviar dreams. Hope you have a wonderful retirement. Enjoy!" May all of your cherished family memories be a blessing as you remember your beloved Lee.

I worked with Lee at Rainbow Ridge and several Midtown communities. He was always so kind and eager to help us fix anything that needed his expert attention. He did not like working in our pool pump room though, lol. It was always too hot and sticky in there! I will miss hearing about his adventures with his granddaughter. I admired his skillful insight and knowledge of our industry. I will miss him dearly.
