Our deepest sympathies to the parents and family members of Fr. John, known as "The High Priest." He was a favorite priest of the families within our parish. He loved participating in our communal dinners, getting to know each and every person individually over food. He loved sharing jokes and learning new ones from all our participants. We had last seen him at a Cathedral event several years ago. He was so happy to see us. We mourn his passing. May he rest in peace. Jack and Bengie Foster

Dear Glenn and Virginia, Jerry and I are so saddened by the death of Fr. John. He was just like a son to us and we spent many hours together on and off church business!! He was a great Priest, one of the favorites at Sacred Heart Parish, Paxico, KS. We were lucky to have him for six years. We know he's been hurting and our hearts have hurt right along with him. We were fortunate enough to celebrate his 25th Anniversary in the Priesthood with him just a few years ago. You should be very proud of his dedication to the church. Thank you for sharing him with us! We will always love him. Marilyn Jerry

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Reynolds, My heart goes out to you in the loss of your son, Fr. John. We all enjoyed him at Christ the King Church. He had a humor that a lot of people didn't get or I think maybe congregations think you shouldn't laugh in church. I always giggled at a lot of his sermons and busted out in a few until I'd look around and no one else laughed. I did ask him if it was rude to laugh out loud in church and he said of course not- it was a joke! Not a lot of people knew he wanted to also be a meteorologist and liked to talk to my husband and I about tornadoes and weather clouds. We are storm spotters and wanted to take him on one of the times we were out but he wasn't sure he would fit in our truck!! We would have made room.. He was sure a joy to us. As a sacristan we loved to spoil him with special treatment at Mass always but more when he started to get worse. We all hated to see him in such pain. We will miss him--such a good guy. We thank you and God for sharing him with us at CTK. God Bless you and his sisters

My sympathy to all of you who mourn the death of Father John. I first met him when he was pastor in Nortonville about 15 years ago when I began working in stewardship for the Archdiocese. Throughout the years that followed I came to know Father John’s tender-hearted personality and deep compassion for others. He was a follower of Christ in every way. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Fr. Reynolds was very holy and he inspired our family to say grace publicly. One day, at a Chinese restaurant in Olathe, I saw a man sitting alone and saying grace, then, I realized it was our priest! It may seem like a little thing but it was good for our family because we did not always say grace at home but after that we say it publicly and privately. He was a good example to our family. Plus, we liked him very much!

To Fr. John's family-We are sure God has welcomed Fr. John into Heaven with open arms, but we will all mourn his loss here on earth. I worked for him at Sacred Heart, Paxico, for many years. He had such a gentle way, full of life and humor, and a heart that cared for all of his friends and parishioners. He married some of our children, baptized many, offered sympathy to some and was loved by our entire family. Our prayers will be with you! Bob and Carol

To the family of John-our deepest sympathies go out to all of you in this time of grieving. May God provide you comfort and peace in this challenging time. God brought John into our lives in 2007 in Houston Texas at a Marriage Encounter event. From that time on we had a beautiful and blessed friendship, even though we lived many miles apart. For many years we spoke weekly by phone, then by FaceTime. We enjoyed several vacations with him when he came out to California. He loved our fresh produce, and also fresh fish when we ate at a restaurant by the beach. Mostly, we just enjoyed spending time with this faithful, compassionate, gentle man. Our family loved getting to know him. We were blessed to attend the 25th anniversary of his ordination, and saw how much everyone loved him, which warmed our hearts. We are saddened by this loss, and will miss him greatly, but we know he is at peace in the arms of Jesus. Bob and Peg Krueger, Manteca, CA

Dear Family of Fr John: my heart aches for you at your and our loss. John was such a wonderful person. I was blessed to have known him from seminary days when I worked at HT. Then I worked with him at Holy Cross. We worked well together and I enjoyed getting to know him on a deeper level. He has been in my prayers since I heard of his illness. As hard as it is to lose him, he will always be in our hearts and just a thought or prayer away. Know that you are also in my prayers these days. He’s with the God he loved and will now take care of us. God’s blessings be with you. I send you love. Sister MaryLex

We are so sorry we had to lose Fr. John. He was with us at Sacred Heart-Paxico for several years. We loved to have him over to our house for a little relaxation. He always wanted "real" popped popcorn and Diet Coke. We helped move him to his house at Holy Name in Topeka and visited when we could. We attended his 25th Anniversary in Olathe and wrote each other occasionally. He was so loved! He was a good man and a good priest. We will miss him dearly. Our sincere sympathy, Bill & LuAnn Roth

Our thoughts and prayers have been with John for months now. We just wanted to let the family know we're keeping you all in our prayers. Covid-19 kept us from attending but in Spirit we were with you as we got to hear and see everything using the phone. No more ducking doorways now, Rick could sure relate with John on that. The many years we camped together over Memorial weekends and staying up late watching the camp fire crackle and pop with such beautiful colors is one of my best memories. And being able to celebrate mass together at Prince of Peace and getting one of his big smiles after mass as he hugged us both, that we will always remember

I was saddened to hear of Fr John’s passing. I enjoyed my time with him as he lived at Onaga and served the three parishes of Kelly, Corning and Onaga. He was very social in the Onaga community and enjoyed meals with the local farmers. He seemed to be able to make himself at home anywhere. He talked about his family and especially looked forward to phone calls from his mother. His many health issue began to show up during the time I was his employee. It was sad to see him slowing down. May he Rest In Peace.

Fr. John, the "high priest" as he fondly became known. May you be rewarded in heaven as the Lord has called you to a new life with him. Rest in peace Fr. John!

The Schrick family of St. Joseph's Church in Nortonville, Ks are so sorry to hear of the death of Father John. When Nina. A. Schrick died March 20, 2009, I called Fr. John at 6:30 am from the Village Villa Nursing Home to let him she had passed and asked if he could come pray with the family and pray for her soul. (He had previously anointed her.) He said he would put his oatmeal on the back burner and drive right over. He prayed with us, her adult children and then returned to the church to celebrate 8:00 am Mass. What a dedicated priest and a beautiful human being. May he rest in the arms of our Lord for all eternity.
