                                                              Doris Jean Martin Juhl
                                                  October 18, 1927 - November 18, 2020
Doris J. Juhl died on Nov. 18 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, MO, following a fall in her home this past August. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wed. Nov. 25 at the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle, 416 N. 14th St., Kansas City, KS, followed by entombment at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1150 N. 38th St., Kansas City, KS.
Doris was the daughter of William Bernard Martin and Cecilia Lauretta Begley. She was born in Kansas City, KS, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary College, Leavenworth, KS, in 1949.
Immediately after college, Doris began working as a secretary in the City Legal Department of Kansas City, KS, (now the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS). Doris married Jack Kirk Andrews Juhl on Jan. 31, 1953, at Blessed Sacrament Church, in Kansas City, KS. Their only child, Jennifer, was born in 1964. For many years, Doris cared for both her ailing husband and young daughter while also working full time as a legal secretary. After Jack’s death in 1969, she continued her career and ultimately advanced to the position of Administrative Assistant to the Chief Counsel of the Unified Government. She retired in 1993.
In retirement, Doris served as secretary to the Cathedral of St. Peter Parish Pastoral Council for 10 years. She was a faithful member of the Cathedral parish since 1961 and attended Mass weekly until she could no longer drive. Doris also volunteered for 8 years as an office assistant at the Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, KS, and for many years she volunteered for the Sisters, Servants of Mary in Kansas City, KS.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters Dorothy Rose Martin Wacker and Bernadine Frances Martin Pretz. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Jarrell and son-in-law David, Leawood, KS, and grandchildren Jonathan, Quentin, Genevieve and Jackson, along with several nieces and nephews and their families.
While she will be greatly missed by her family and friends, Doris’ legacy lives on in her grandchildren, the lights of her life.

i took care of Doris while she was at brookdale rehab. She was a very sweet lady, and was always so kind. Anytime I’d walk into her room she was snacking on some chocolate. Even though I took care of her for a short time, I know she will be greatly missed.
