Carlos Ilich Gutierrez, 38, born the fourth son of Wilfredo Gutierrez and Martha Romero Coleman, entered the world, January 24, 1982, in Managua, Nicaragua.
Ilich came to the United States in 1990. He attended the Manhattan Elementary schools, Manhattan Middle School and Manhattan High School from which he graduated in 2001.
Ilich took some college courses at Kansas State University, but shortly thereafter, started working in construction. Ilich strived to learn and better himself, by taking classes and certifications that helped him in his job. He most recently was working as an ironworker with the Ironworkers Local Union.
Ilich found great pleasure in cooking and would always make delicious dishes for his family. Cooking was an artform and a celebration with him and he was always proud of his dishes. Without a doubt however, of all things he took pride in, he was most proud of being a father to his daughter Selena.
Ilich was a beautiful soul. He was kind and compassionate; always ready and willing to help anyone in any way he could. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed spending long hours talking to his sister. He loved his siblings and cared deeply about others.
Left to honor his memory and fulfill his legacy include his daughter Selena Gutierrez, mother Martha Romero Coleman, his father Wilfredo Gutierrez, brothers Lenin, Iran, and Isaacs Gutierrez, sister Irlanda Gutierrez, nieces Julianna, Adalina and Ninelle Gutierrez and Sofia Ramos, nephew Isaias Bockelman and many more aunts and uncles.
Ilich’s family is deeply and grateful to the many friends and wonderful community that have offered love and support during this difficult time. A service will be held on Saturday, November 14th at 2:00pm at Hillcrest Covenant Church (8801 Nall Ave. Prairie Village, KS 66207).
