With deepest sorrow, we announce that Mona V. Fisher (nee Pichon) departed for her heavenly home on September 24, 2020, after a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer's disease. Waiting for her there were her husband, Donald G. Fisher; her parents Gus E. and Vida E. Pichon; brother, Garland Pichon; brother-in-law, Ron Isaacson; son-in-law, Daniel Childs; and beloved best friends Charlene (Roy) Jons, Darlene Stolfus, Anna DeArmond, Earl ⁷Richards and Ricky Fisher.
Born January 9, 1932, in Chicago, Mona lived briefly in Akron, Ohio, before her family settled in Kansas City, KS., in the 1940s. She is a 1950 graduate of Wyandotte High School.
Mona is survived by her sisters, Gayla Isaacson and Carolyn (Steve) Rice; her children, Richard (Sherry) Fisher, Terri Childs and Gaylynn (Steven) Green; grandchildren Amanda (Bryan) Carroll, Monica (Estevan) Trujillo and Michael (Bianca) Fisher; nine great-grandchildren, Lilliauna, Aubriauna, Destiny and Devin Carroll, Isabella, Haileigh, Elijah and Emily Trujillo, and Ezra Fisher; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
In addition, Mona is survived by what she lovingly called the "children and grandchildren of her heart": Debbie Richards, Mary (Ed) Asher, Cindi Lowe, Tammy Dodderidge, Shannon (Brian) Jones, Sean Richards, Jonathan (Jenny) Asher, Z Asher; Kim (Clay) Englehart, Robin Cipolla, Jessie Leonard Fisher, Johnna Taylor, Melody Frese and Cindy Niedens.
Mona volunteered her services with the many organizations in which the kids participated. She was the leader on her daughter's Camp Fire Group and served on the Camp Fire Board of Directors. For her efforts on behalf of the young women of her community, she was awarded the Luther Halsey Gulick Award, Camp Fire’s highest recognition, reserved for people who demonstrate extraordinary council leadership over an extended period of time.
After raising her children, Mona re-entered the workforce, first working at the doughnut shop at Indian Springs, where she enjoyed serving the early morning walkers. She then began more than a 30-year career in banking, most notably at Bank Midwest, where she excelled at her interaction with customers and co-workers.
Mona loved her family and friends fiercely and her laugh filled the air when she shared time with them. She loved traveling, especially to any locale on the water, watching sunsets and attending weekly concerts at the Frontier Steakhouse. Her heart and her home were always open to anyone blessed
enough to be in her orbit.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at Mount Ayr Cemetery, Altamont, Missouri. Due to Covid-19 health concerns, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date in Kansas City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mona's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
