On Wednesday, September 9th, John Kenneth Rowland lost an unexpected battle for his life. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2020. Please text (785) 813-1606 or email incelebrationofjohn@gmail.com for details.
Born April 16, 1979 in Kansas City, KS to Kenneth Alan and Dorothy Ruth (Fletcher) Rowland, John grew up in KC and graduated from Sumner Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1997. In 1999, John married his high school sweetheart, A Noel Zarzosa, and the same year they began growing their family. They welcomed their first son, Dillon Avery, and quickly followed with their daughter, Talia Ann, in 2001 and their youngest son, Caleb Asher, in 2003. John worked at ADT from 1999, building his amazing career and reputation there until his death. He also completed his Associates degree at Kansas City Kansas Community College, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s from Park University, with his wife and all three children in attendance of his graduation in 2005.
John was an amazing man. He led with his heart, followed closely by his humor. His openness just drew people in, no matter what the circumstances. Many people have said that knowing John was gaining a new family. His kindness had no borders, and he had such a way of making everyone feel like they fit. From building a virtual family online, to the scout community he helped lead with Troop 53, to the work community he connected at large, and the smaller team he built with such pride and love – the impact John had on the lives of those lucky enough to know him has been immeasurably beautiful.
He loved computers, reading really slowly, video games and all manner of other imaginary creativity along those lines. He loved helping others, and adventuring in the great outdoors, with and without the scouts. He loved his friends, his family and dreaming big. But most of all he loved his wife and children. John is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, his three children, as well as his mother, Dottie; his brother, William (Laura) Rowland; his aunt, Cindy (Mitch) Yulich. In addition, he will leave behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, family of his heart, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Al.
John was the sole provider for his family. Keeping this in mind, friends and family have created a fundraiser to help pay off the family mortgage. If you would like to help, please consider donating: gf.me/u/yx4w6z
