Nov 19, 1966---Sep 10, 2020

Scott Alan Workman, 53, Olathe, KS passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family. He courageously battled pancreatic cancer for 7 months. Visitation will be held at Porter Funeral Home in Lenexa, Kansas from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. In honor of Scott’s love for the Cubs, the family asks that visitation attire be casual. Cubbie blue and shorts are welcome. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a. m. on Wednesday, September 16 at Cure Of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Rd, Leawood, KS.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.

Scott was born on November 19, 1966 in Salt Lake City, UT. He grew up in Cullom, Illinois and was a 1985 graduate of TriPoint High School. He was an outstanding student and athlete and was honored to have been coached by his father, Jim Workman, Sr. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1990. He started his accounting career at ADM in Decatur, IL. Scott moved to Olathe, KS in 2007, where he most recently worked as a Controller at Smart Warehousing in Edgerton, KS. What Scott loved most was being with his family, his wife Nicole and his two children, Andrew and Allie. 80's music and watching his children play sports brought much joy to his life. Along with coaching tee-ball and baseball. Scott was an avid lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and, not wanting to have his children carry that “burden”, he graciously accepted their affinity for the Kansas City Royals.

Scott is survived by his wife of 18 years, Nicole (Frerichs) Workman and two children, Andrew and Allie. Parents, James Michael, Sr. and Velma (Shigemura) Workman of Sun City, AZ. brother, James and Chris Workman, Jr. of Tremont, IL, nephew, Matt Workman of St. Peterburg, FL.  sister, Sandy and Tom Lammer, nieces and nephew, Claire, Joe and Katie, of Woodbury, Minnesota. He also leaves his in-laws, Robert and Iola Frerichs of Akon, Iowa. Brother-in-laws and spouses, Dr. Darin and Dr. Jill Frerichs and their children, Lauryn and Nick of Clive, IA and Ryan and Kate Frerichs and their children Elizabeth, Margaret, Anna and Jackson of Wavelry, IA.

Dear Workman family, I am heartbroken to hear of Scott’s struggle with pancreatic cancer and passing. Scott was one of my favorite students at Tri-Point because of his big smile, enthusiastic attitude, and he was the best student I ever had in milk judging. It was also because he was your son, Jim and Velma, and I cannot imagine your grief in losing such a special son. You and yours are in my thoughts and prayers Thomas Poskin

We all aspire to be the type of friend, coworker, spouse or parent that will leave a lasting impression long after we are gone, but for some people, like Scott, it just comes effortlessly. It was so easy to see that Scott loved his family immensely, but he was also the type of person you just want to be friends with – to talk about sports, family, life or work. Scott made the day-to-day work life fun, always up for grabbing lunch, and always a confidante and giver of good advice. Scott loved life, in and return, made you love life more because of him. Scott will be truly missed, but we rest assured knowing that he is watching his family and the Cubs from above.
