Shirley A. Tubbs, 85, of De Soto, met her Lord and Savior on June 24, 2020. A private memorial for family members will be held Saturday, June 27th at Overland Park Baptist Temple, 11648 Antioch Road, Overland Park, KS. Private interment will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

 

Shirley was born in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Jesse Northington and Grace (Roberts) Northington on January 27, 1935. She grew up in the Kansas City area and worked various jobs, eventually working for The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers for over 15 years. She married Bobby Wayne Tubbs, Sr. on March 6, 1979, and together they retired to the Pomme de Terre Lake Community in 1995. There they were members of the Galmey Community Bible Church. They eventually moved back to the Kansas City area to be closer to family. They were members of the Overland Park Baptist Temple for many years. Shirley loved gospel music, Bible study and preaching, her kids and grandkids, spending time at the lake, and black walnut ice cream. She doted on and dearly missed her Yorkshire Terrier, Tiny.

 

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Bobby, two children, Steven Tubbs and Teresa Shelton; brothers Bill and Bob, and sisters Bettie and Bernice.

 

She is survived by her son, Mike Rollwagen and wife Susan; son, Jesse Rollwagen and wife Sybil; son, Kelly Rollwagen; daughter Joni Burch and husband Marty; son, Bobby Wayne Tubbs, Jr.; and her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joni. I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of your mom. I just can’t imagine your emotions at this time with this loss. I remember most your mom’s smile and laugh. The few times I was able to be around her she definitely had a special joy.
