Sharon Kay Guthrie Batt, 71, of Kansas City went home to Heaven on June 2, 2020. Sharon was born in 1948 to Robert and Harriett Guthrie and raised in the Kansas City area. Known as “Big Nanny” to her grandchildren, she was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Sharon graduated from Washington High School in 1966. She attended cosmetology training after high school and worked at the Wyandotte County Courthouse Annex in the auto licensing department for nearly 20 years, where she met several of her life-long friends.
She leaves behind a loving family consisting of her husband, David Batt, of Lenexa, Kansas and their furry, four-legged son “Bruiser”; two daughters residing in Kansas City, Missouri – Lisa Spencer, married to Kyle Spencer and Joeli Buckley, married to Patrick “Jay” Buckley; six grandchildren, Megan, Robert, Ashli, PJ, Baylee and Reilly; and, two great-grandchildren, Ariya and Brooks. She also leaves behind her mother, Harriett, a sister, Carol and a brother, Wayne, all of Lenexa, Kansas, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father, Robert and a niece, Tracy.
Sharon adored celebrating and gathering with her family. She was a wonderful cook. She had a gift for crafting and decorating. She loved music and had such a beautiful singing voice. She never left a phone call with one of her daughters without asking about every single one of her grandbabies. A truly amazing and warm woman whose generosity was endless. The qualities of selflessness, strength and compassion were exemplified by the way she lived her life and those qualities were passed to her daughters who will teach her values to future generations. She will be missed as greatly as she was loved and her memory will be cherished by all whose lives she touched.
Private family services will be held Monday, June 8, 2020. She will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that a donation be made in her honor to Saint Luke’s Hospital of the Northland in appreciation of the wonderful care provided to her.
