Sep 24, 1958---May 22, 2020

Curtis Denney passed away May 22, 2020, age 61 at his home, in the arms of his wife Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by his beloved father Judge George Curtis Denney.  He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Elizabeth Dearborn-Denney; his mother Noreen Denney; three sisters: Tricia Wood (Jim), Colleen Weems (Steve), and Martha Evans (Roger).  He also leaves behind his nephew David Wood (Christina) and his niece Jenny Williams (Todd).

He had a special affection for their young children Brenden and Cameron Wood and Logan and Kyle Williams.  Curtis had many good friends. He was very close to his buddies and they grieve his loss greatly.  He was also close to numerous cousins.

Curtis was born September 24, 1958. He graduated from Southwest High School and the University of Missouri Kansas City.  Curtis grew up in the Brookside area in a neighborhood with dozens of children in his age group, whom he had fond memories of playing and running around with.  Curtis worked 36 years at United Parcel Service as a package car driver, from where he retired at age 53 in 2012.  He often described leaving there as one of the happiest days of his life.  After retirement from UPS he worked part time at Suburban Lawn and Garden. These kind and loving people made him feel like a member of a family. Curtis was one of those rare individuals who was loved by everyone who knew him.  Curtis had an especially close relationship with his mother Noreen. Rarely are a mother and son as close as they were.

A Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 30, 2020 at the Church of the Ascension at 9510 West 127th Street Overland Park, Kansas. Visitation is 9:30 am – 10 am and it will be outdoors, at the church.  Services will be lived streamed starting at 9:50 am at  http://kcascension.org

A beautiful tribute to Curtis! You will be missed. Dave will cherish the memories of playing baseball and going with you to Chiefs games. Christina will forever remember you playing games with the kids and the amazing Christmas lights bus ride you gave to the family. Brenden will always remember seeing you at the Royals games and the gracious gift of his first car. Cameron loved your sarcasm and quick wit, but was tearful when you ended your last conversation with “you are so beautiful”. Thank you for the years of love and support.

So sorry for your loss. I never really got to know Curtis as he was ten years younger. But my mother spoke of his affectionately.

I met Curtis for the first time just 8 years ago and yet he had this friendly way about him that made you believe that he had been a close friend of yours since childhood. Our times attending San Francisco Giants games with Curtis and Beth out in the City are some of my most treasured memories. Love you Curtis, love you Beth.

Friend and retired fellow school bus driver ,Christiansburg ,Virginia

My dear Elizabeth, I am deeply saddened to learn of Curtis's passing. While I don't know the circumstances of the how and why, I'm very very sorry that I am so far away and unable to provide comfort and assistance to you. Soon after moving to Virginia, I became disabled and can no longer travel alone. I am very upset that I have no means to help provide the comfort and support you will need to endure with the loss of your dear husband and wonderful man. I know we will all reunite in heaven, but the heartache being felt right now is overwhelming. I'm sending you many loving hugs and much love to support you through this. Please contact me if you wish. My phone number is the same and my email is still the same. I love you, L'Oriânne Koneczny

I am so very sorry for your loss. I have such precious memories of the Jackson kids growing up on Kenwood with all of the kids from the Denneys, the Mundys, the Wesslings, the Murthas, the Amicks, and Billy Wolf. What great times we had staying out late in the summer playing games like hide and seek, singing, and just talking and laughing. I hope these memories comfort you and that you find solace in knowing that Curtis is at peace with his Dad. Sharon Jackson Evans

My condolences to the family and friends of Curtis. This man will be missed. Always stopping to chat with me about SEC football or to just make me laugh. He brought me a extra sandwich one time and that was so sweet. My hubby and I made him a MU pumpkin one year and he sure got a kick out of that! He had a great laugh and would always crack me up. We love you Curtis! Many prayers for healing for the family and I want you all to know-he was loved and will be dearly missed.

Sorry to see this. I went to St. Peter's then Southwest HS with Curtis. Used to hang around with Curtis down on Kenwood with Darwin, Bobbi, the Mundays, and all the kids that lived down there. We also worked together for Porter's Personnel Service, working Kemper and other venues, during HS. He was a good soul.

A very moving service. I wish I could have been there to put my arm around Noreen and hug Beth. It gives pleasure to think of George and Curtis playing catch together again. Two young men; smart, funny, and good.
