I worked with David for several years in the early1990s at Shughart Thomson. He was always so warm, welcoming--and had the best sarcastic, sharp sense of humor. I hope your membories will bring comfort.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family at this time. Dave touched so many lives for the good. I am glad my son got the honor of being coached by him and I know that he left a deep impact with my son that he will never forget. I will miss seeing him at the West games this fall as that is where i would always run into him and we would chat about how Brayde was doing with football and life in general!

I worked with Dave at Seigfreid Bingham for over 20 years. He was a mentor, sounding board and good friend. You could always count on Dave to make you smile. He was easy going, laid back, and never took anything too seriously. His "one liners" could send you into hysterical laughter. He was super smart and super funny. Every Christmas eve, he would bring his famous pumpkin cheesecake to work which was the reason a lot of us worked on Christmas eve! Dave, I will miss you. This is a terrible loss but I hope the family can take some comfort that Dave was loved by all of us here at Seigfried Bingham and made our days and lives better for knowing him. Rest in peace Dave.

Dave was a good guy who had a great laugh and was always good to inspire the boys never give up. He had some great jokes when we needed it and truly loved being in the field.

Coach Dave has coached our son as a Viking for 4 years, he has shown such kindness, leadership and been a role model in showing respect to each and every boy on the team. I will never forget we were once leaving practice and (as usual) I had my hands completely full. Coach Dave SCOLDED my son that he did not offer to carry anything for me - and since that day, he never lets anyone leave the car without offering to take something off their hands. We will never be able to thank you for sharing your husband, dad and friend with so many boys for so many years. He has made an impact on so many young lives and we will forever be in your debt.

I want to keep the entire Shay family in our thoughts and prayers!! They lost "Dad" today! A true good neighbor and a friend! A Great Husband to Kym Shay and a Wonderful Dad to Dan Shay , Andrew Shay and Matt Shay ! Dave you shall be missed, not for your smart ass remarks but because you are a solid guy! I watched you coach at Chiefs stadium for SMW Football at halftime, when we didn't know each other (Chiefs vs Seattle preseason game) and celebrated many a fish fries with you as well! You thought enough to include Jake and I in the Royals World Series parade in front of your office on Grand. I use to wake up to fresh (front yard ) garden tomatoes and jalapenos on the hood of my truck during garden season. He even brought me a Saints visor home from his and Reggie's New Orleans/LSU trip! Only person I have ever known to plan a trip yearly to watch a college and a pro game in the same weekend in the same state!!! RIP Dave you shall be missed!!

I am so sorry and deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Dave. The Shays became a second family to me and though we have lost contact over the years, they all have a special place in my heart. Dave was great man and an even better father to his boys. He also always went out of his way to make me and his other "bonus kids" feel welcome and loved. He truly was a dad to all. Dave's smarts and sense of humor were unmatched, you couldn't help but to be happy around him. He was loved and will be missed by many. Mama Shay, Rew, Matty, and Dan Dan you are in my thoughts, love you all.

I practiced with Dave at Seigfreid Bingham from 1999-2006. He was always ready with a quip or interjection to raise a smile. Such a compassionate, warm-hearted individual. Haven't had the pleasure of being around Dave in awhile, but I'm certain he will be greatly missed by those who have. Blessings, Kym and family - may God bless you in this time.

Met Dave almost 30 years ago as we were both coaches for SM West through the Football and Cheerleading Club of Johnson County. Great guy who positively influenced the young people of our community for the entire time I've known him. I'll especially miss his sense of humor. Godspeed Counselor,
