Bob you were a good, good man. You were the first mentor I ever had. You helped me see the light in dark times. You helped change my perspective on the world. From an angry abused teenager to a capable young adult with perspective and resilience. You helped make me a better man and you were the first person who really tried. You will be greatly missed my friend. I will always hold our time together close to my heart. I will keep your father’s pen in good care and pass it on when I find the right person. See you when I get there my friend. Much, much love, Graham

So sorry for the family’s loss! He taught us religion, out of the Bible, I think when I was a freshman at Hayden High. I’m a 1974 graduate. I really enjoyed that class. Mr. Aley made it truly interesting, and I actually learned! One of my all-time favorites.

Mr. Aley was an amazing and caring man. He was my guiding light during high school and helped me through some of my darkest days. He was so easy to talk to, compassionate, real, and genuine. I think of him often and keep his kind words and lessons close to my heart every day. He will be greatly missed, but lives on in the many lessons he taught and the love he gave. I’m so sorry for your loss and will keep the entire facility in my prayers.

Bob was an exceptional man and I am forever indebted to him for what he did for me, my family and the profound impact he had on my life. He loved me until I could learn to love myself and made an unbearable point in my life tolerable enough to struggle through. Through his actions he demonstrated just how important living one's faith is and the power of kindness and compassion when we extend it to others. My hope is that in my life I have been able to extend just a fraction of the grace to others that he so generously gave to me, especially when I least deserved it or wanted it. Bob not only saved my life and brought me back to the path of the world around me he made me want to stay on it and to help others. He never once made me second guess what I was feeling or reminded me of my many failings and he always let me know that when I was ready there was a world that wanted me to come back to. Thank you Teresa and his many children for sharing Bob with us, it is my hope that you know how deep an impact he has had on my journey in this life and my hope that I have and can continue to pay it foward.

Theresa, prayers for you and your family as you mourn Bob’s passing and celebrate his life. I have so many wonderful memories through the years of Bob. We were in school together in Topeka. He would say that we spent senior skip day together, and he was right but it was working at the rectory at Holy Name, so not as crazy as it sounded. When I was principal at Bishop Ward he was part of an informal principal support group that we formed to support each other and share our best ideas. My best memories are around his passion to help..help students, colleagues, friends. What a good man-you are yours have my sympathy. Rita McGinnis, SCL

Dear Teresa and family, You have my deepest sympathy and prayers as you mourn Bob’s death and celebrate his life with you and his new life in Christ. I have such fond memories of teaching with Bob over fifty years ago at Hayden. His love of Scripture, Jesus and the Church was so deep even then in his young life. Bob and Teresa were newly married and beginning their beautiful family. As a Sister of Charity, I am grateful to Bob and Teresa for their faithful witness to love of family, friends, their faith community and the wider issues of social justice in our world. May Bob rest in peace. Love, Sister Judith Jackson SCL

Dear Teresa, I was so saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. I have thought of you both often. I’m so happy my dad and Bob became friends. Dad talked so fondly of Bob so many, many times. If it weren’t for my dad and Bob’s friendship I would never have had the opportunity to know both of you. Please know that you all will be in my thoughts and prayers. Heaven is a little brighter now that Bob is there. Love to you and your family!

I taught for him at sacred heart high school in salina ,Salina ,Kansas

Teresa, my heart is breaking for you and your family in the loss of Bob. I was a teacher at Sacred Heart High School when he was there , and missed him when he left! I remember him as caring for the kids and the teachers- he would have get togethers for us so we could unwind and relieve some of the stresses of teaching!! There was never a dull moment when Bob was around and I’ve never had a principal quite like him!! I remember you as one of the sweetest women I ever knew, and enjoyed watching your children grow and watching the gentle, loving way you both parented them. I hope you can all find peace. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.
