Jan 25, 1982---May 03, 2020

Phillip Michael Carney, 38, Overland Park, KS died Sunday, May 3, 2020.

Phillip was born January 25, 1982 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Paul M. and Julie A. (Madsen) Carney.  Phillip was the second of five children and grew up in Overland Park, KS, graduating from Bishop Miege High School in 2000.  Phillip was athletic and artistic, a baseball player, artist, aspiring chef, and award-winning competition ballroom dancer.  Phillip continued his love of dancing by becoming a ballroom dance instructor and leading many dance partners to win competition awards.  He was one of the professional dancers in Kansas City’s Dancing with the Stars.  Phillip was an avid reader of all genres, especially Catholic literature seeking to learn all he could about his faith.  He was gifted with a witty sense of humor and endeared all who encountered him with his winning smile.

Phillip loved his son, Nolan, who was wrapped around Phillip’s heart. Together they enjoyed playing at the park, visiting museums, fishing and building Legos.

Phillip is survived by his son, Nolan, his parents, Paul and Julie, and four siblings, Kristen Marquis, Emily Carney (Mark), Andrew Carney (Diana) and James Carney (Anna), and several nieces and nephews.

Phillip’s family suggests donations to Nolan’s Fund, The Welcome House, a recovery center, or the Overland Park Fraternal Order of Police.

Friends ,Kansas

This is a beautifully written obituary. My family was blessed to be the recipient of Phil's talents and gifts. He gave me a newfound joy in dancing (Judy). And I know he turned to his faith during difficult times and deeply loved Nolan. We are praying for all. Jesus' Mercy. Requiescat in pace, Phil.
