Aug 15, 1932---Mar 24, 2020

Gail Minteer Hughes Anderson, 87, of Kansas  City, KS, died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday morning, March 24, 2020. Gail was born in Norman, Oklahoma on August 15, 1932 to Eugene W. Hughes and Elveta M. Lehr. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother, Eugene J. Hughes, and infant daughter, Mary (1957).

Gail attended the University of Oklahoma where she studied psychology and philosophy and was a member of Pi Beta Phi. After college she moved to Kansas City and worked as a flight attendant for TWA. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Neil Elliot Anderson of Kansas City, KS. They were wed September 1, 1956 and blessed with three children, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Gail was an avid runner most of her life, running 6-8 miles each day. Her running time also served as her prayer time. She loved the outdoors - camping, sailing, hiking, and backpacking. Gail was a voracious reader and a wonderful cook. She was a devoted wife and mother, but she was also devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Gail was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer and served on the Adjunct Staff for Stephen’s Ministries for many years. She always looked for opportunities to serve others in her community. As a member of the Junior League of KC, she worked with children and at-risk youth. Later, she and Neil assisted the chaplain by visiting patients at KUMC.

Gail leaves behind her husband, Neil, son, Tod A. Anderson (Kathy), daughter, Megan A. Lewis (James), daughter, Amy M. Weippert (Dallas), 7 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and 2 nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service for Gail will be announced at a later date, due to current circumstances. Please send notes and condolences in care of Porter Funeral Home.

Dear family of Gail, and Neil, We worked with them in Stephen Ministries for many years. Gail was always such a dear heart and loved the Lord. We share the same religion as Neil and Gail so we had lots to discuss. We know that she has had some health problems so now she is home with the Lord , maybe even running a race or two. We love both Neil and Gail pray the the Lord will give Neil peace. In Christ's Love, Jim and Nancy
